On a more serious note, there are also people whose lives become a very turbulent and horrific journey after receiving news of a life-threatening or crippling disease. This type of news changes the lives of children and families in an instant. Parents are already frazzled and busy as they run children around to various events in addition to working and keeping their homes clean, groceries stocked, clothes cleaned, etc., but when days become filled with hospitals, tests, diagnoses, and fear, they would LOVE to go back to “everyday life” busy. Although I am sure that the players on the Vikings were crushed after their loss, I am also certain that all of them would agree that their disappointment with the outcome of the game doesn’t compare to those dealing with severe injury or illness. What’s the takeaway? Keep perspective. Look for children and adults who might need support and encouragement. As bad as our own days may seem, there may be someone near you who is deeply hurting. Together you can support and love each other through your trials. Life is not easy, but we all have the ability to enrich and promote others, and I am willing to work hard to do just that! Life can change in an instant, for the better or certainly for the worse. Take football, for example.

My nephew Zachary Line plays for the Saints but previously played with the Vikings for 4 years. The game between those teams last Sunday was crazy! The Vikings dominated for the entire first half, looking much stronger than the Saints. The Saints then pulled ahead and kicked a field goal with very little time left. The Vikings’ quarterback threw a bomb that was caught with 2 seconds left in the game, and the player ran it 63 yards for the winning touchdown. It was unbelievable! I can only imagine the rollercoaster ride of emotions that the players and their families experienced as they were losing, winning, and then lost in the last 2 seconds of the game!

A kind word, your patience and compassion may be what gets someone through an impossible situation. Never underestimate the power of love.

The mission of

Center Line Public

Schools is to provide

all students relevant

and challenging

learning experiences to

inspire success and

empower them to be

leaders of tomorrow.

As this is the first article from the Human Resource Department in 2018, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year!

As we are around three weeks into the new year, I think it’s a good time to consider those resolutions that so many of us make. According to the

numbers, 80% of people who make resolutions fail to stick to them for longer than 6 weeks. I poked around and looked at all sorts of different reasons

and explanations for this, but I think it’s really a very simple explanation: CHANGE IS HARD. In doing a little more research, I found this article on why we don’t follow our resolutions: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/10-reasons-why-new-years-resolutions-fail.html. One of the ten reasons we fail is a lack of social support. In my opinion, this is probably the single biggest reason. We are social creatures. We look to fit in and be a part of something. Research has shown time and again that the healthiest people are those who belong to and engage in a community. Therefore, I am resolving this year to put extra emphasis on community. I am determined to get more involved in ours, and to be more visible and engaged. This community has blessed all of us who work here with the opportunity to serve it, and then it blessed us again with the passage of a mileage to improve our learning environments. Center Line is truly a special place filled with special people. Again, happy New Year, and I look forward to what 2018 has in store!

The surveying company has been sighted around the grounds even in this cold, snowy weather!
