Company Profile Mobility Solutions was founded in 2008 by Mike Petterson, a well known Durban businessman with many years of experience within the medical industry. The business has developed to encompass 3 thriving divisions: 1. Hospital 2. Disability/Rehab incorporating Active Health 3. Manufacturing

Registered with the Board of Healthcare Funders, the Hospital Division is a preferred supplier to all major hospital groups such as Life Health, Netcare, Capensis, JHB, government & many private hospitals throughout South Africa and Africa.

The Hospital Division, managed by Mike, provides a highly professional service with prompt turnaround times. All three divisions are committed to offering only quality products, at afford-able rates, with service and spares back up. The vast range of local and imported medical products encompasses everything from theatre and ward equipment, to disability products, maintenance and ancillary items.

The Manufacturing Division is a compliment to the Hospital Division and manufactures to or-der, a large range of medical products such as weighted drip stands, mayo tables, heavy duty stainless steel trolleys, surgeon stools & chairs to name but a few, to the highest specification. Theatre equipment is custom made to the surgeon’s exact specifications. Examples of spe-cialised theatre equipment manufactured include “Alvarado” Knee Supports and ‘Beach Chair’ for shoulder arthroscopies. New products, such as the innovative stainless steel D-Germ Bot-tle Holder, designed by Mike, or the aluminium and stainless steel glove and mask box hold-ers, bathing system and many other designs are all part of the ongoing R&D which keeps Mo-bility Solutions in the forefront of competitive advantage with superior products & achieve-ments.

The Disability/Rehab Division, managed by Mike’s wife, Lorraine, a qualified health & fitness professional, with a nursing background, is a preferred supplier to QASA (QuadPara Associa-tion of South Africa), along with QAK (QuadPara Association of KZN) & many other disability associations & private institutions around South Africa. Registered with most medical aids and the RAF, this division offers a unique approach to nursing homes, rehab centres and indi-viduals, in that it provides medical products, assistive devices and consumables, as well as the Active Health, health and wellness advisory service. Lorraine also writes a monthly column on issues regarding disability for the national newspaper Thisability.

The Social Responsibility Programme is a commitment to always give something back to those who need it the most, be it donations of wheelchairs to government homes, sponsorships to disadvantaged clubs or giving of time to take part and assist disabled hand cyclists in all main cycle events around South Africa, as well as active participation in the 4 day epic Jhb/Dbn, 1,000 kilometre, off-road quad bike event which raises money for QASA (QuadPara Associa-tion of South Africa) with whom they have a longstanding relationship.

Active Health is a division of Mobility Solutions

Healthy, Wealthy and Wise. Such a true saying, as the wise ones enjoy the wealth of good health but

health and fitness is something we all tend to take for granted, until, it is suddenly taken away from us and

all too often, we are left with little or no energy, no motivation and even everyday tasks that once were so

easy, now becomes incredibly energy sapping and tiring.

I have always maintained that a healthy body is the foundation to a healthy mind. I liken it to a garden – if

the body is unhealthy and unfit, the garden in our mind is full of weeds, looks untidy and lacks colour and

lustre, but, if our body is healthy, we look healthy and the garden is full of flowers, colour and happiness.

This is true no matter what your disability. Some of you may say, “Oh what’s the point, it won’t help me

anyway”. I guarantee you right now, that taking just a few minutes a day to do some kind of exercise will

make a huge difference to the way you view life. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t exercised for years, you

can still do it.

I recently had the absolute pleasure of teaching some amazing quadriplegics how easy it is to get fit, lose

weight and stay healthy and we all had a wonderful time in the process. It took just 12 weeks to see major

improvements in their mobility, flexibility, strength, endurance & co-ordination, and they also learned how to

lose weight through good nutrition.

What have you got to lose? Nothing but you have everything to gain. Until next month, keep smiling, stay
