Fine Needle Aspirates (FNA) of breast, thyroid, axilla, parotid, submandular, lymph

node and cysts

Laboratory: Histopathology (Cytology)

Specimen: Superficial and deep seated lesions. Deep seated lesions that need ultrasonic,

CT or fluoroscopic guidance may be required. Use a 22–25 gauge fine

needle and a 10–20mL syringe for collection of specimen. Prepare a thin

even smear on a clean microscope slide(s). Immediately after preparation,

spray a complete even coating of Cell-Fix onto the slides from a distance of

25–30 cm (10–12 inches). Fixed slides will be dry between one and five

minutes. Label, place in cassette and send to the laboratory.

Alternately transfer the aspirate into Shandon Cytospin Collection Fluid

(green fixative solution) and the lab will prepare the slides.

Turnaround: ≥80% of results are returned in 5 days

Report: Cytopathological Diagnosis provided by Consultant Histopathologist

fixative solution).
