The person we seek will be enthusiastic about implementing and extending our Strategic Plan. They will be excited about contemporary Australian performance writing, e-commerce and creating new markets. They will love working with a small, talented team whom they will inspire and support. They will enjoy working positively within the public-funded sector and will feel at home with writers, teachers, producers and theatre directors. They will extend our excellent relationships with key industry partners – Playwriting Australia, Playlab, Currency Press etc. They will have exceptional written and oral communication skills, a strong business and strategic aptitude and an eagerness to explore new electronic and digital applications in the service of our clients. About the ASC The ASC, located in the Salamanca Arts Centre, Hobart, is a national arts organisation, funded by the Australia Council for the Arts, Arts Tasmania and most other State arts funding bodies. It collects, distributes and promotes contemporary Australian plays and performance writing to markets nationally and internationally.

Major Duties Leadership • Interpret, extend and drive the Strategic Plan. • Advise the Board on important issues. • Maintain strong relationships with all key stakeholders, including funding

bodies and leaders in professional theatre, playwriting and education. • Assert the Centreʼs role in national and international markets and media. • Lead and support staff. Planning & development • Drive new business with a particular emphasis on e-marketing. • Develop new strategies which realise and extend the Strategic Plan. • Identify and secure new significant partners. Personnel Management • Manage recruitment and staff contracts. • Initiate staff professional development. • Maintain a dynamic, safe and harmonious workplace.

Financial Management • Work in close consultation with the Treasurer to develop and control annual

budgets. • Develop business and income streams. • Report regularly to the Board.

Skills & Qualifications Essential: • A relevant tertiary qualification or proven management experience and

achievement in a similar arts management role. • Experience and/or knowledge of online marketing. • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and a working

knowledge of MYOB • Enthusiasm and drive

Desirable: • Established national networks. • A keen interest in theatre and/or performance writing.

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Enthusiasm for promoting contemporary Australian theatre and performance writing to the world.

2. Outstanding leadership qualities and the ability to initiate, consult and support. 3. Exceptional organisational management skills including strong financial

management, sound strategic judgement and decision making ability. 4. Sound business and entrepreneurial ability, particularly in e-commerce and

online distribution models. 5. Understanding of the not-for-profit sector and proven excellence in securing

funding and managing grant applications. 6. Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to manage a small, creative

team, and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

7. Effective written and oral communication skills, including sound liaison,

negotiation and consultation skills.
