Directions• Write a 7-8 line poem• The title will be an oxymoron• Choose from Mrs. Thorson’s list/ approve it through her

first• Each line of your poem must begin with a verb (A)• OR• Each line of your poem must begin with a preposition (B)• A VERB is an action. You may use it in the present tense,

past tense, or with an “ing” ending (running)• A PREPOSITION is a word that indicates a relationship to

something in space or distance. Examples: on, near, by, across, up, down, outside, with, etc.

• Your poem should be your interpretation of how you see the oxymoron (the duality or conflict) within your title.

out. Above the basic concepts,

Below godly. Opposite of boring and plain.

For I am better than just average, Except I am just a person.

Inside I am extra ordinary.

Terribly Good (A - Verbs)Running her mouth from person to personSmirking with every upsetting response Laughing as everyone believes her lies

Keeping an innocent face with every accusation

Smiling as everyone takes her sideAllowing the lies to grow larger and larger

Believing what used to be lies as the honest truth

Bright Night (B)Over the galaxies and nebulas

Past the swirls of the Milky Way,Between the faces of the Earth and Moon

Atop the clouds, light makes its wayBeneath the rings of Saturn

As the beams glitter with all their might Amidst the comets and black holes

Above my head, the stars shine bright

Pure Evil (A)Sinks claws into scattered minds

Crawling deeper and deeper past a core

Replacing first set morals without remorse

Unleashing chaos to wreak havoc over all

Embedding nouveau instinct Slaughtered soul, No shred of original

selfUnhinged and riotous

Silent Scream (A)Eliminated from all human ears

Caught in your inner gutsEnforcing all types of emotions

Expressing anger among allInfluencing fists up high

Building confusing sounds Tackling a soft emotion

Open Secret (A)Whispered at a steady pace,

Traveling from ear to ear,Altered truths and accounts,

Releasing a secret for everyone to hear,Playing “telephone” as the truthChanges as it goes down the line,

Witnessing silly rumors and wicked grinsHating the secret that is no longer is mine.

Pretty Ugly (A)Realizing reality is painfully unfortunate when she

Discovered what she is and will always beLimiting the unlimited possibilities that used to be

within reachRuining those uplifting dreams causing her to

Run from the hurtful truth, then finallyWeeping because those words and images were not

lies –Knowing she will never be pretty enough.
