Teaching and learning

When students enrol at Newbridge College, they are first provided with a detailed syllabus of each subject so that they know what is expected from them. No amount of text books or notes can substitute good teaching methods. For this reason, we employ effective teaching methods and use books and notes as guides only.

How our programmes work

Newbridge Diploma programmes are based on the modular system, where students have the opportunity to advance to the

next stage after having been assessed at the end of each semester. Each of the units taught are self-contained and are designed to develop knowledge, skills and the critical mind in the fields that they are taught. Real life situations are imparted and shared with students by our dedicated teaching team who are experienced in their respective fields. To qualify for the United Kingdom BTEC Higher National Diploma (BTEC HND), students are assessed based on assignments.

Using problem-oriented teaching techniques, the problems commonly faced by students in understanding a particular topic are examined. Emphasis is given to these problem areas with the ultimate aim of making students to actually understand and not just memorize principles and theories. Both cognitive and effective skills are emphasized in all our teaching.

Students are provided with a detailed plan of how the syllabus would be completed to meet the assessment requirements. Students will be encouraged to adopt an interrogative approach to learning and would be required to integrate the sub-topics covered so as to enhance total understanding.

To top it all, role-playing is constantly used to bring out the best in students. Projects and presentations form an integral part to help students understand “real world” examples.

AssessmentsAssignments and tutorials throughout the Diploma programmes are used to develop the student’s practical and communication skills, and decision- making capabilities. As the students pass each examination during the semester, they receive credits for the units they have completed. In the process, the students would be able to monitor their progress and be able to have an indication of where they stand academically. For the BTEC HND, students will be assessed based on the assignments they submit for subjects covered under the BTEC HND.

Mock Examinations with extensive feedbackFor our Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, Certified Accounting Technician and London Chamber of Commerce and Industry Diploma courses, students are given Progress Tests and Mock Examinations under examination conditions. Feedback from our experienced lecturers help students identify areas that need reinforcement to enable our students to be better prepared for the examinations.

Highly experienced lecturersOur teaching team have many years of experience helping students achieve examination success. They are selected not only for their subject knowledge, but also for their teaching and industry experience to support all our programmes.
