DIPLOMA IN RADIO JOURNALISM A one-year programme in radio and video broadcasting for students wanting to work in media

PROGRAMME INFORMATIONThis programme has been redesigned to equip students with the skills required to gain a career in broadcasting media. The diploma offers two strands – one in journalism (including video) and the other in broadcasting (including radio station design, writing commercials, live broadcasting and podcasting). This programme includes an industry work experience placement.

The following modules are compulsory:

> Broadcast production – learning how to run a studio

> Broadcast presentation – training in voice work and presenting to camera

> Multimedia broadcasting – video, social media, media photography, web content

> Podcasting

Journalism strand > News reporting – find news, conduct research and interviews for radio

and video

> News story production – write and edit material for radio and video news stories

Commercial broadcasting strand > Radio station design – programming for radio

> Live broadcasting – planning, managing and performing live broadcasts and live crosses

> Commercial stream – commercial copywriting and coordinating promotions

Electives > Internship – work in industry for up to two months

> Documentary – in radio or video

> Creative broadcasting – pitch and develop as a proposal an original idea to enhance broadcasting content

> News package production and broadcast

CAREER OPPORTUNITIESGraduates will have the opportunity to work in the media industry as radio and video presenters, promotions coordinators, journalists, producers, panel operators, radio subeditors, radio programmers, copywriters, communication managers or video journalism for the web.

QUALIFICATIONGraduates who take the broadcasting strand will gain the Diploma in Radio Journalism with an endorsement in Broadcasting. Graduates who take the journalism strand will gain the Diploma in Radio Journalism.
