Section 2: our commitment to the eight MAP criteria

We encourage you to work together in as many of these areas as possible but we recognise that some situations require focused partnership in a few areas in the first instance. Rather than using the 8 criteria for growth in the MP development tool, we have agreed as a steering group to use the 8 MAP tool criteria, since we are working towards a Mission Partnership MAP

The Steering Group agreed in principle that a joint away day for churches in the Mission Partnership would be a good idea for the future, content to be decided in due course. The day is likely to mix teaching, worship and social time.

b. To watch over yourself

c. To ensure that a high standard of worship, preaching and pastoral care is offered

4. Specific Responsibilities Bearing in mind the general responsibilities listed above, the shape of this brand new post is envisaged as follows: Core activities: • Sunday ministry in churches across the Mission Partnership including preaching and Holy

Communion services. • Sharing in occasional offices and helping to develop the opportunities afforded by them • Involvement in pastoral care. • The House for Duty priest will be a full part of the clergy team, able to contribute ideas and

experience, free from responsibility for general administration or buildings. • We are looking for someone willing to commit to the overall missional vision of the Mission

Partnership and its leadership. Other possibilities: • This is a strategic time for the newly formed Mission Partnership, as we look to grow in

depth and in numbers. The House for Duty priest might have gifts or experience that could contribute directly to this.

• We are open to such gifts contributing to the current overall vision but also to developing new approaches where these might be fruitful

The expectation is that the post would be a minimum of the equivalent of 2 days per week plus Sundays but there is scope for a larger time commitment to be agreed. 5. Key colleagues within the church (local, deanery, diocese and ecumenical)

• In the Mission Partnership, Rev Peter Hughes & Rev Daran Ward • Other lay & ordained colleagues in the Mission Partnership • The Area Dean and Lay Chair of Rotherham • The Archdeacon of Sheffield & Rotherham • The Bishop of Sheffield and Bishop of Doncaster

6. Key partners in the wider community (individuals and organisations)

• The parishes of this Mission Partnership include active / growing schools and other community organisations. It is anticipated that the House for Duty priest will develop appropriate links to these in ways that fit with his / her role.

7. The House The post holder will be able to chose between Thrybergh Rectory, located on Manor Farm Court not far from St Leonard’s Church, and Braithwell Rectory. Thrybergh Rectory has a private garden with views over open fields towards Thrybergh Country Park and Reservoir. Both properties are well located with four bedrooms and downstairs study.

8. Statement by the Archdeacon on behalf of the Diocese In line with the diocesan strategy for re-imagining ministry, these parishes have worked carefully and prayerfully over the past year to create a Mission Partnership that could really make a difference across this mix of suburban and village areas on the eastern edge of Rotherham. This would suit a House for Duty priest who has some energy to engage with these churches at a really important point in their development, providing additional support that can make for further growth. There is already a good level of lay ministry involvement with others exploring vocations (lay and ordained). The appointment last year of a Youth & Worship Leader, based at St Francis Bramley, is making a difference there but this is also a ‘hub’ post that will impact the rest of the partnership and deanery. The parishes have good admin support. There are two Church of England schools. In the case of St Alban’s, this attracts a large number of young families to church (a prerequisite for school entry) but there is scope for thinking further about how to disciple them. There is good access to several other local authority schools for assemblies and other input, as well as growing links in some parishes with uniformed organisations. Occasional offices afford steady (but not overwhelming) regular opportunities for contact with people in the communities at key moments in their lives. The two incumbents are both very missional in their outlook. They have met regularly over the past few years, which has been a good foundation for the Mission Partnership. There is some other ordained support from a retired minister and from another priest who has a diocesan role. Review Date: Signature of office holder: Date: Signature of Archdeacon: Date:
