May 2016 I enjoy reading about the Saints. Catholic.org and AmericanCatholic.org are good starting points. I usually scan the next month for inspiration or something to write about. May brings many known and unfamiliar names… Joan of Arc and St Bernardine caught my eye. Joan has been written and immortalized in film, but the true story is not as glamorous as Hollywood depicts. St. Bernardine was a young man, volunteer- ing in the hospital in 1400 at the height of a plague, before later becoming a Franciscan and a well known orator, preaching the Word of the Lord. Take a moment and learn about how ordinary people answered the Lord’s call. Sponsors and Players needed. Please see the website or Paul Dainko for more details. Aquinas High School 24th Annual Golf Classic Saturday May 14th, 2016 at Arrowhead Country Club Saturday, May 28 at 4PM Dinner will include Enchilada casserole, beans, rice, veg- etables, salad and dessert. I enjoy reading about the Saints. St. Bernardine was a young man, volunteer-ing in the hospital in 1400 at the height of a plague, before later becoming a Franciscan and a well known orator, preaching the Word of the Lord. Take a moment and learn about how ordinary people answered the Lord’s call.

My Brothers, It is a year of elections. Later this year, we will be called upon to fulfill a duty of citizenship, to elect representatives at all levels of government. Before that, political parties are electing delegates and organizing all sorts caucuses, primaries and other methods of nominating candidates who will run for the public offices. In addition, many private organizations are electing Boards of Directors and other officers to lead them through the year, or perhaps several years. And of course, our own Council #4488 will be accepting nominations for the 2017 Columbian year. Boards and officers are vital for any organization to operate, especially regarding communications among the members.

Often people complain about their choice of candidates, describing their "only choice as a lesser of two evils". Some say this year's presidential election is one of these. Given the time that has passed for primary elections and the many debates and "Town Hall" discussions, many people's first choice has gone by the wayside. I have seen some candidates attractive to me leave the campaign.

In elections like these, I rack my brain trying to discern which candidate should be my choice. I feel powerless to feel good. In these cases, I remember that God is in charge, and that I can't know what is in store for our children, grandchildren, and our country. But when the time comes, I will have studied the issues, listened to the candidates, read analyses and opinions from experts and leaders. Then I will cast my vote and hope the best for our Country and community. For I thank God I live in a place where the People may steer the direction of our society. Its far better than the dictatorial alternatives.

So please, when the time comes...

May is the month we traditionally honor our mothers, but in a very special way we honor The Blessed Ever Virgin Mary, the Immaculata. For those who either do not know the dogmas of our Holy Church, there are four concerning Our Lady that we must believe if we call ourselves a faithful Catholic: Mary was conceived without origi-nal sin; Mary is the Theotokos, the God bearer, Mater Dei, the Mother of God; Mary is the Perpetual Virgin, before, during and after the birth of Jesus Christ, and she had no other physical children, but we are all her spiritual children; Finally, she was assumed into heaven, both body and soul where she is Queen of Heaven and Earth.Scriptural passages confirming these dogmas are: Genesis 3:15, Luke 1:30-38, 40-50, John 2:1-10, John 19:25-27. Acts of the Apostles:1:13-14 and Acts 2:1-4, The Apocalypse of John(Revelation) 11:19, 12:1-5.For additional information and confirmation of these dogmas, come to our Wednesday night class and bring your questions with you as many men and women who call themselves catholic, now openly question or deny these dogmas. Mother Mary was called the New Eve just as her Son, Our Lord, was identified as the New Adam very plainly by St. Paul in Romans 5:12.Even the early Protestant leaders Martin Luther and John Calvin believed Mary was a perpetual virgin, if you take the time to do the research. All of us Brother Knights should have a special devotion to Our Lady as evidenced by the Rosary you were given. Let's start praying it again, if you have stopped, or continue praying it and trusting her powerful intercession to Her Son, the King of Kings who will win the final victory. Put on the Armor of Salvation, men.Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,SK Bob Herness, Church Director #4488

Thank you to all those who supported our April fundraisers. They would not be successful without the support of everyone. Dinner will include enchilada casserole, beans, rice, vegetable, salad and dessert. Popcorn will again be provided during the movie. The movie will be "Viva Zapata" starring Marlon Brando and Anthony Quinn. Henrietta Chavez's aunt has a bit part in the movie. The cost is $10 per person with all proceeds going to our scholarships. Please contact Angie Vargas at 725-2826 or Terry Zanez at 213-1446 for tickets no later than Monday, May 23. Tickets are limited to 40.

The ladies will be cooking dinner for the May General meeting. The menu will include fried chicken, macaroni salad, corn, salad and rolls.

Culture of Life------------------------------------------John RozziIf you believe that you are a registered Independent voter, it is possible that you are mistaken because there is no such named organization; it is the American Independent Party, and so you will have to re-register as a Republican if you wish to vote for one of those candidates, who are Pro-Life. Obviously, as we are all Catholics, we cannot vote for any of the Democrats, who have had abortion in their election year platform for decades. Therefore, if you fit this description, and you wish to vote in the June 7 primary, you must re-register as a Republican. You can always change back to a proper independent designation later. Please do not take the position that if your Republican candi-date does not win the primary that you will sit out the primary election and possibly the November election. This would be the surest way that the abortion party, the Democrats will win. Please, let's pull together on this, and remember to pray about it also.
