Outline Dimension

Approximation

Grammar

Dimensions A mode of linear extension of which there are three

in space and two on a flat surface, which corresponds to one of a set of coordinates specifying the position of a point.

Includes : ( Length , Broad “wide” , Depth , Height and

Time…)

DimensionsLength: the distance from one end of something

to the other end.

Depth: a distance below a surface.

Height: rising or extending upward a great distance.

DimensionsDimensions are countable and have unit.Dimensions are used as either (noun) or (adj)

Dimension in the sentence:

The height of the derrick is 60 meters. (noun)

This room is five meters long. (adj)

DimensionsUnit of Dimensions

SI unit for dimensions is (meter, kilo meter…)

US unit for dimensions (feet, mile…)

ApproximationAn approximation is anything that is similar but not

exactly equal to something else.

*Approximate and Approximately

Includes: (close “closely” , near “nearly” and almost …)

ApproximationUsing in sentence:

Approximations uses with Dimensions or any things that approximate to another thing.Using approximation (things to another thing): The car is stopped near (not “nearly”) bridge. The apartments are close (not “closely”) to each other

ApproximationsUsing with Dimension: The room is nearly (not “near”) 3 meters high. This road is approximately (not "approximate")

100 mile long

Approximation usually come with number of dimensions

ApproximationsWhy using approximations? When we speak, we often try not to be too exact

because it can sound very direct. As a result, we add expressions to make what we say more approximate.

Grammar Dimension & Approximation

Noun:The + dimensions + of the + something is + (approximation) number Adjective:Subject + is + (approximation) number + measurement + dimension

GrammarAsking about dimension (noun)

What is the + dimension + of + something?

Example (What is the depth of the well? )

GrammarAnswering ( noun )

The + dimension + of the + something + is + (approximately) number + measurement

Example ( The depth of the well is (approximately) 2000 meters. )

GrammarAsking about dimension ( adjective )

How + dimension + is + something ?

How high is the rig ?

GrammarAnswering ( adjective )

Subject + is + (approximately) number + measurement + dimension

The rig is (approximately) 25 meters high.
