Shout joyfully to the LORD, all you lands; worship the LORD with cries of gladness; come

before him with joyful song. Know that the LORD is God, our maker to whom we

belong, whose people we are, God's well-tended flock.

Enter the temple gates with praise, its courts with thanksgiving. Give thanks to God, bless his name;

good indeed is the LORD, Whose love endures forever, whose faithfulness lasts through every age.

Presentation Notes
Remember that this is our blended learning model, including our face to face time, blog and wiki. Please feel free – during the week to: Contact your instructors if you need assistance. Locate a high school or college age student to mentor you Contact a classmate who may be more skilled in an area to assist you with the assignment Our goal is to become a community of learners who will support one another and to be there for one another. We are the new disciples, learning how to fish in new waters!

We tell stories because we can!

Since prehistory we have shared stories or narratives,

originally in pictures or symbols drawn on cave

walls. .

Page 8: Digital storytelling summer 2013

Stories often take on their own life, and

it is the story we remember not the actual event.

Page 9: Digital storytelling summer 2013

This is a way of keeping memories alive that might

have faded.

stories tell us about our life

Presentation Notes
Everyone can tell stories! We tell stories about our birth, about our baptism day, about our first day in school, about our first dance, and on and on an on. Like a fish who just takes it for granted --swimming in water…we take it for granted that we are storytellers. It is when you invite us to be a storyteller in front of group or to use new tools that all of a sudden we become “shy violets!” And today, if we are asked to tell a story with digital tools, we disappear into the woodwork with fear and trepidation and perhaps say – Not me!

“Being a storyteller is not about being in the spotlight, rather it’s about being in community with others.” Jan Blake

Presentation Notes
Jan Blake (See - http://powerinthevoice.britishcouncil.org/resources/tips/becomingastoryteller/becomingastorytellercontinued/ ) says… “Being a storyteller is not about being in the spotlight, rather it’s about being in community with others. “ A person dies…and our memories and stories become the way we remember them. Our scriptures…share the history and story of a covenanted people …who journey through time…meeting the Lord in storm and in sunshine… meeting saints and sinners… and telling the greatest story of them all…The Story of Jesus – from his birth and until his death!

stories tell us something about someone else

Presentation Notes
What’s most important about our storytelling is that it is… an inclusive art form – regardless of delivery form our voice – even in a few words tells it all…as I watched the news the night of Michael Jackson’s memorial service, the one persons story that stands out for me was his daughter, Paris, who in a tearful voice said, “He was the best father you could ever imagine.” our photos – as we pull out photographs from weddings, anniversaries, children growing up, events at school, and more our paraphrased music – where we often put the story together with a favorite piece of music our home style videos – jerky or not…they tell the story of an event that is important to us.

stories are both personal and universal

Presentation Notes
In the words of Jan Blake –   The idea that an individual can, just by the force of their own life, conjure whole new worlds from within themselves is very exciting, therefore, when I teach, I'm hoping to inspire others to realize and utilize their own inner resources, their own ability to create images, to use their voices, bodies and words to paint vivid pictures in the mind of the listener and to take the listener on a journey deep into their imagination. The storyteller's role is that of a guide - to take the audience into the landscape of the story. http://powerinthevoice.britishcouncil.org/resources/tips/becomingastoryteller/becomingastorytellercontinued/

Digital Storytelling – Steps to create your story

Presentation Notes
In this day and age, we are collaborators and share information with one another. Instead of recreating the wheel, it is better to share the wheel that was developed and to improve upon it. Katie Christie has a wonderful website at - http://katiechristo.pbworks.com/Digital+Storytelling with the PDF that you see here as well as other resources that she has directed others to in regards to Digital Storytelling. She is using a Wiki – to share the information that she would like you to use. As you see you can embed videos into a wiki and other links etc. A “Wiki” would be a wonderful way for you to share the Digital Stories that are created by your students, youth, or adults as they share their stories.
