Hello boys and girls. We are beginning a new unit of writing called opinion writing. An opinion is when you tell what you think or how you feel about something. You might tell about things you like, or do not like. When telling your opinion, it is very important that you explain why you think or feel the way you do.

To start this unit, you were each asked to bring in a collection of items. Today, you are going to see and hear about my collection. I would like for you to listen to how I talk about my collection. Talking about my collection today will help me get ready to write about it. Listen for my lead, my reasons why, and my closing.

Well, boys and girls, did you enjoy seeing and hearing about my collection today? Let’s review what we saw today. In the beginning, I explained my collection by telling you some things about it and by telling you which pair was my favorite. Then, I told you three reasons why my tall red polka dot socks were my favorite and I told you more and more about those reasons. At the end, I finished by retelling which socks were my favorite and quickly telling why. I cannot wait to hear about the collections you have brought today. I hope you are ready to share them with me.
