How a digital camera works

A digital camera

is used to capture images

using pixels which are

small squares of colors shown

on a computer screen.

Downloading images

A digital camera

can be used to download images

from camera to the computer

and would have to be optimized to have

be viewable on the internet.

Raw Images

RAW images

are larger and have

a bigger file size

and should be edited or

down sampled for the web

Photoshop has a feature to edit

images called “Save For Web”.

This feature optimizes images to

be used on the internet. In this feature,

you can change the size and the file type and

changes its resolution to 72.

Optimized Picture

Ratio

4:3 – is the ratio

to be shown

like a regular monitor

16:9 – the ratio

shown to look like

a widescreen monitor

Best way for naming files

Files should be named with

dashes and not underscores

(-) not (_).

White spaces in files will be filled

with %20.

*&^%$#@! Are forbidden characters in

naming files and you should avoid

using slashes in file names.

Megapixels

The file size and quality

of the picture is dependent

on how much megapixels there are

An average 4:3 computer can view

an image that is 1000 pixels wide

However a camera would take a

picture that would take up 4 and a half

computer monitors and its resolution is 350.

This picture would be a high quality but it is

not suitable for a web page when it should have

a resolution of 72 and width of 1000 pixels.
