Geographically located in the centre of

England, it is home to the vibrancy of

Birmingham, the UK’s second largest city,

together with the history and culture of towns

and areas such as Stratford-upon-Avon and

the Cotswolds. This central location means

90% of the UK’s population is within 5 hours

drive time. Moreover, with a population of 7

million people within 1 hour of the centre of

Birmingham and 13 local universities, there is a

wealth of skilled talent on the doorstep.

And when it comes to the games industry, the

region’s credentials are just as impressive,

with over 25% of the UK’s games workforce

employed in the West Midlands – no wonder

really with the availability of such a wealth

of skills, cutting-edge research and existing

experience to draw upon.

Richard Butler, Head of Inward Investment,

Advantage West Midlands comments: “SXSWi

is a critical event on our calendar, as it provides

a place for British companies to connect to

American ones and for us to showcase the

booming digital media industry which the

region is home to. Our stand at SXSWi, which

forms part of the British Digital Mission, will

be a hub for a spectrum of companies from

the region to gather and network. Creative

digital agency, Fish in a Bottle, whose clients

include the BBC, Nickelodeon and Disney is

just one of around 15 who will be doing just

this, and demonstrating their technologies to

American companies who may be interested

in expanding their business to Europe,

whilst we’ll be helping to connect American

businesses to the region, by making sure that

they can access the support services and

investment which is available to them.
