Digital India Shares its Mind to Make Successful Mission of Swachh Bharat

Cleanliness is a virtue. Like any other virtue it needs to be nurtured, practised and

imbibed. It is one of those very basic things that make the finer aspects of existence

beautiful and make life worth living. A squeaky clean home instantly makes our mood

bright. The fragrance of freshly laundered clothing makes us confident and going. We

feel comfortable in company of a person with clean demeanor and clean dress.

Interestingly, cleanliness is not a virtue cherished only by human beings. Some animals

and birds too actively keep their nests and surroundings clean. Cleanliness reflects

purity, essence and hygiene which are the foundations of life.

And just as it is important to keep oneself clean, it is equally essential to keep one’s

surroundings clean as well. Indeed, those who live by cleanliness will tell you that in

order to know a person it is important to check his bathroom. There is nothing truer than

this. A clean locality prevents the spread of many infectious diseases and it also directly

reflects about the habits and culture of the inhabitants living there. In a clean abode

reside a healthy body and a clean soul. All three are necessary to make a nation healthy,

wealthy and happy. It is for this reason all the religions of the world hold up the flag of

cleanliness in their scriptures.

A common misconception is that in order to remain clean one needs to spend big. There

is not an iota of truth in it. Cleanliness is not at all related to wealth. One does not need

to wear expensive clothes or live in castles in order to remain clean. The clothes can be

ordinary but should be clean. This is exactly the message that the Prime Minister

Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat (Clean India) campaign is trying to convey. The

national level campaign by the Government of India with PM Modi at its helm has

become India’s biggest ever cleanliness drive involving all cross-sections of people. The

campaign gained a huge momentum since the beginning, as celebrities from all walks of

life joined hands with common people and cleaned the roads. The campaign has been

described as ‘beyond politics’ and ‘inspired by patriotism’ and aims to accomplish the

vision of Clean India by 2 October, 2019, the date that marks the 150th birth anniversary

of Mahatma Gandhi.

So far the hygiene drive involves maintaining personal hygiene and clean locality. But it

can gain further momentum if we can shun chemical products from our daily life and

pick up herbal products made of natural ingredients. It is because chemicals involve

impurities and most of the chemical waste that factories produce are not biodegradable.

Most of herbal wastage on the other hand are biodegradable and helps protect the

environment. Also maintaining eco-friendly, clean environment in the factories is very

essential. Besides, the packaging materials used as container should be such that

prevents spilling over and ensures clean use of the product.

But how much are the common people aware of these various aspects of the

cleanliness drive taken by the government? We tried to fathom the impact of the

Swachh Bharat campaign initiated the government on common people’s mind and

asked our users some strategically crafted questions. The response we got from our

users show, they are not only aware of the government’s drive, but they are also

whole-heartedly participating in the programme. We were pleasantly surprised to find

out that the mammoth number of participants are aware of all the positive aspects of

Heathbuddy Herbal products.

The Take Away Points:

1. Impactful Initiative: 90% of the respondents believe that Swachh Bharat has a very

significant impact on public health, cleanliness and hygiene. This shows how effective the

campaign has been.

2. Clean Mission: 68% of the respondents believe that an effective partnership between

citizen and government will make the Swachh Bharat a successful mission. 17% of the

respondents believe the onus should entirely be on the citizens. 15% have, however, left it on

the government.

3. Participation Matters: Common Indians are eager to participate in the Clean India

campaign through every possible means. 43% of the total respondents have expressed their

willingness to participate in the campaign by every possible means, including taking the oath,

cleaning the roads and planting more trees.

4. Dirty Business: Spitting on the roads are not only a civic nuisance; it is also one of the

causes of many diseases. 34% of the respondents said, it is the pedestrians who spit more on

the roads, rather than people travelling in trains, buses, cars or other vehicles.

5. Disposing the Waste: Throwing off small garbage on road is another common folly that

makes roads dirty. The bad habit, however, is changing as many people are carrying small

carry bags to deposit the garbage and later throwing it away at a vat. 47% of the respondents

said they followed this habit. The bleak part is, a good 20% said they throw garbage in a

corner away from others’ eyes. Similarly, when it comes to home waste, 49% keep dry and

wet waste separately and dispose off accordingly.

6. Clean Locality: 46% of the respondents said they clean their localities themselves. 41%

said they would create a volunteer team to keep the surroundings clean. Only 13% said they

would entirely depend on the municipality sweepers to do the job.

7. Healthbuddy Herbal: The respondents are well aware about the Healthbuddy Herbal

products. 90% respondents know that Healthbuddy Herbal products are made in clean, eco-

friendly factories, while 92% know that these products are made of natural ingredients.

Another mammoth 95% said they are aware that the packaging materials of Healthbuddy

Herbal products are such that prevent spilling of the content.

8. Quotable Quotes: All the scriptures have sermons on cleanliness; most religious and

political leaders have advocated about maintaining cleanliness as that is the first step towards

achieving greater goals. We mentioned a few famous quotes on cleanliness and asked who

said it. The respondents answered all the questions correctly, barring only one. It indicates

that the respondents are well aware about most of the famous quotes uttered by renowned

personalities.
