DIGITAL BADGES
ABOUT The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award (known as iDEA) is an innovative Badge Store concept that helps people develop skills for free. ‘Badges’ can be online or real world experiences which unlock points towards the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. iDEA aspires to be the digital and enterprise equivalent of The Duke of Edinburgh Award, but with iDEA, it’s about stage, not age. Bronze is beginner level, Silver intermediate and Gold advanced. The programme is completely free and accessible on any modern device, operating system and browser – so anyone can play and learn with iDEA digital badges anywhere they can get online.
So far the programme has been implemented at iDEA Pioneer institutions including schools, colleges, universities, councils, community outreach organisations and corporates.iDEA is for everyone – young people and adults alike. The iDEA bite size badges are very flexible – participants can do them with their friends, on their own, or in classroom or workshop environments.
Badges support both formal and informal learning, and have been mapped against the National Curriculum and the Skills Framework for the Information Age. This helps support learners across a range of curriculum subjects including the three core areas of formal computing education: digital literacy, computer science and IT.
