Every year, all students must receive student internet safety training (Technology Acceptable Use Policies for Students) in order to be granted access to the district's equipment, internet and email accounts.

All students or parents/guardians are required to sign a Student Agreement Form.

The use of technology by a student is a privilege, not a right.

follow his/her digital responsibilities. There are plenty of applications that facilitate communication in support of research and education. These include and apply to email, webpages, distance learning, social media,

messaging, forums, chats, blogs, newsgroups, and any other application used through the internet. Laredo ISD provides access to the Internet to help your learning outcomes.

Digital Etiquette

A basic set of rules you should follow to show good

manners online.

Digital Law & Guidelines

The legal rights and restrictions on how to use technology and content found on the internet.

Digital Citizenship

The freedom to use technology in an acceptable, responsible, and safe way.

Digital Etiquette

• Be polite and respectful at all times. Never deliberately harass,

threaten, or intimidate others (cyberbullying).

• Messages should not be typed in all capital letters as that is

considered shouting and rude.

• Use appropriate language and behavior that is not disruptive or

abusive.

• Always be yourself. Never mimic anyone else while online.

• Respect the privacy rights of others. You may not gain access

to or read, delete, copy, or change anyone else’s profile

information or work even if you know them.

• Be considerate of another’s time and storage space.

Digital Laws and Guidelines

• Follow the rules and guidelines created by Laredo ISD.

• Listen to your teachers’ directions and rules.

• Respect the Laredo ISD filters and security measures.

• Only use the Laredo ISD hardware and network if you received

this training and submitted a signed consent form by parent.

• Be mindful of others’ work found online; no copying.

• Comply with Copyright law, Fair Use Policies, Creative

Commons, and other guidelines regulating ownership and

sharing of content, programs, and data.

• Use the internet according to civic and federal law.

Digital Citizenship

• Use the online digital world, the internet, for learning.

• Report any inappropriate online behavior (such as

cyberbullying) or use of unacceptable sites to your campus

administrator or your teacher.

• Refrain from using the internet to buy or sell products.

• Conserve district resources.

• Keep your information private. Do not share or post personal

information online.

• Keep your passwords safe and confidential.

• Be respectful of and take care of all equipment and data.

• Stay away from sites that have inappropriate & illegal activities.

• Refrain from posting or looking for inappropriate materials.

• Do not attempt unauthorized access to any site.

• Refrain from using the internet to buy or sell products.

• Never use email or other applications to make appointments to

meet people in real life after meeting online.

•Never provide your personal information to anyone online.

Equipment

• Technology equipment includes desktop computers and

laptops, handheld devices, printers and any peripherals

(accessories).

• Handheld devices may include iPads, iPods, tablets, etc.

Use

• District technology equipment is to be used for educational

purposes only.

• Students must adhere to the district’s Acceptable Use Policies.

• Equipment must be used with care. Students must not change

settings, backgrounds, or move to another room.

Security

• Utilize your username and password to access your computer.

• Sharing your username and password with others is not

allowed.

• Use only positive, safe, legal, and ethical behavior when

accessing equipment. Do not bully, harass, defame, or demean

others with language, images, or threats.

• Always log off your computer.

• Do not disconnect, remove parts, or disassemble computers.

• Do not take equipment outside the United States.

Purchases

• Software purchases must be approved by Curriculum,

Instruction and Assessment Dept. and the Technology

Services Dept.

• Installation of software shall be performed by a district

technician.

Use

• Students must not install or download software, music,

demo files, or plugins.

• Use of games is prohibited unless it is for educational use.

• The district will remove any unauthorized software.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

• Students are allowed to use their own personal devices within

the school district upon approval.

• Bringing your own device (BYOD) is a privilege and not a right.

•BYODs include smart phones, iPads, tablets, laptops, etc.

•Students must follow the district’s Acceptable Use Policy

(AUP).

•The district will not provide any maintenance or troubleshoot

technical issues related to personal devices.
