Ed Sheeran’s + Album.Ed Sheeran’s album cover is very plain, but this is what his

brand identity is like. He’s also carried on with the brand identity of using orange to link with his hair and then white, to link with his pale skin. You can clearly see who it is, this is because he is so well known and he is using this to is advantage when advertising and selling this album. He has kept the name of the album simple too, this links to the simplicity of the whole album cover.

The colours used are simply orange and white, the orange is the main colour and the white is used to create his face and the plus symbol.

The cover is laid out with him being the centre of the page, meaning the focus of the cover and this makes him stand out more, so this is also used to aid the advertisement of the CD. The main features of his face are also meeting the principle of thirds points. The plus symbol is in the bottom right hand corner, this is where you scan across with your eyes first, as you look at all the corners and then stare at the middle. Its also really bold to look at, so it hits you in the face and its the first thing you see.

The camerawork that they've used is a close up of Ed where you can see his chin up to his forehead as his hair has been made to blend in and the edges of his face gets faded into the background. They've used camera trickery to get it to look like he’s looking at you wherever you stand.

Ed Sheeran’s back cover carries on the simplicity of the front cover as he has all of the information needed, but its not over crowded and is really easily visible. The text is centred an covers most of the page, apart from the edges. Then it has the barcode and all the copyright information at the very bottom tucked out of the way from the main and most important part – the track list.

The colours for the main aspects are still orange and white, orange being the background and white being the text. But an addition of black has been introduced for the copyright text.

There is no imagery on the back, this is conventional of this genre as none of them have images on the back and they have simple colours and layouts. This is so that you get all the information rather than concentrating on the image.

Passenger – All The Little Lights Passenger’s album cover is very colourful and has an

image made from the colours. The colours are black, blue, white and yellowy

orange. These are laid out to be a sunset. The white is used as ‘little lights’ this links to the name of the album, so makes it conventional and suitable. The album name and Passenger are wrote in an orangey yellow colour to stand out from the blue and black.

There isn’t any camerawork as it isn’t an image, but they could have taken images of parts and then edited colour on to it to make it look like a painting. So they would have used a wide shot to get the whole scene on and then they can take the best part out and put it on to the cover.

The cover is laid out with the image in the centre and the CD title and Passenger are written across the top, which has been centred. The font is San Serif and Passenger is bolder than the album name.

Passengers back cover carries on from the front cover, so the sunset is carried on, this means that all the colours are the same, but the font colour has changed to white, but the actual font style is still the same.

The back cover is laid out with the track list centred and covering half the page. Then the barcode is in the lower left hand corner, next to the copyright text on the right hand side.

This one does have a picture so it isn’t necessarily conventional, but this isn’t a camera picture, its been edited to look like a picture, so its still fitting in with the conventions.

The colours allow the key information to stand out from the background, allowing people to see them easily and if they're changing song quickly they only have to glance rather than really concentrate on fining the track.
