Here are a range of Digipaks made by students doing the same course

as me, that I looked at...

My Favourite Digipak

Digipak Front Cover The front cover is very eye

catching due to the fact that its not a typical photograph of the artist.

The image shows the bottom half of a persons face with tape over the mouth labelled ‘Give Me Novocaine’ – name of the album.

The message behind this is linked to the lyrics which describes a person in pain and seeking cure. However, the tape portrays them to be unable to speak, receive help or talk about their issue.

The image is very dominant and contrasts well with the black background which the person looks as if they are coming out of. It also stands out due to it being white.

The Red tape is very bright and is likely to be used to alert the audience on the idea their trying to showcase.

The name of the band is ‘Green Day’ which is less dominant to the main image due to the size of the font. However, this also stands out and is very clear.

Back Cover The background image is of a hill

and sea in the moonlight that was a photograph taken by the student before hand.

By using Photoshop she took a photo of the artist and merged the two photos together to create this interesting image which reflects the title and idea of the single.

The writing used on this panel is very basic and appears to be on labels. It is very effective as it relates to the way someone would write a message if they’re lost or in need of help.

The panel also includes a parental, guidance logo, barcode, websites, information about the recording label and the logo for the media companies involved in the process of this single. The student makes this appear very professional looking.

Inside Front Cover – Credits Page The credits page is very

clear and uses the consistent type writer font as well as a different font to emphasise the band members name.

The image used of a trainer has some reference within the music video and just shows the connection between the video and the digipak that the student ensured she did.

The red background is very eye catching and alerts the audience to the people who help contribute to the making of this song.

Inside Cover The background image is a bright

green that has a scratched effect to compliment. It also contrasts well with the lyrics that are in white.

The image is of a girls legs who is wearing a tutu and suspenders, just like in the video. This shows a sense of connection between the video and the digipak and that the student thought through every part of her digipak carefully.

I think it was a very good idea for the student to include a lyrics page because it is a single and the audience now can sing along with not only the CD but the words too.

The title is once again in the form of a label which shows the on going style of the digipak (that the student continues) and is the same type writer font as the lyrics.

Disc Tray 1 - CD Rather than having a plain

disc tray, the student has used this panel to her advantage to have a vote of thanks section.

The dominant part of the panel is a guitar which may imply that the artist plays this instrument.

It also contrasts well with the green background that has music notes on it – relating to the notes for the instrument.

Disc Tray 2 - DVD For the second disc

tray, the student drew the focus onto a ‘Green Day’ necklace which not only promotes a ‘Green Day’ product but relates the single back to the band.

The colours used (red and black) contrast well with another also.

Overall, there is a consistency within the students work which consists of the same type writer font

and colour scheme of red, black, green and white. I think the reason as to why the digipak is very eye catching, is because the colours used stand out from one another and compliment each other. I

also think this student structured her work effectively and had very clear ideas of what each page would contain. Rather than filling up each

panel with words and pictures, their is simplicity in her work allowing the audience to clearly look

through and enjoy what the digipak has to offer. In my opinion, I think this is the one of the best

student digipaks because there is a lot of creativity and thought behind it as well as having an

intriguing feel to it. I also liked her ideas and wish to use this digipak as inspiration for my own.
