Land use Portfolio Modeler (LUPM) Description
GIS based tool, developed by US Geological Survey, which assists decision makers in developing and comparing mitigation strategies for various hazards
EarthquakesFloodStream pollution by runoff associated with land use changes
Conceptual Overview1. Identify different natural hazard and risk scenarios
2. Select potential development scenarios
3. Select hazard mitigation approach
4. Assign input variables (hazard probability, planning horizon, mitigation cost, etc.)
5. Model estimates expected loss and the range of loss based on different mitigation policies
6. Display maps of the results of each different policy
7. Compare and visualize different mitigation policy choices
8. Facilitate discussion about hazard vulnerability and acceptable level of risk
Model can be run for alternative scenarios
Projects in process
Use of Land Use Portfolio Modeler (LUPM) to determine the most economically and ecologically beneficial way to implement Best Management Practices in the Chesapeake Bay watershed

Montgomery County data set compilation
All the data was organized for future use
Many of the layers were defined and projected to the corresponding Spatial Reference System
Working projection: NAD 83 Maryland FIPS 1900
Layers were processed for easier management and analysis purposes ClipDissolveMergeExport a feature class
A document was produced indicating the origin and a description of each layer downloaded, using its metadata as a reference
Some of the layers were mapped for a better knowledge of the area and to give us a more illustrated idea of what data we have
Ecosystem Portfolio Tool (EPT) to Evaluate Land Management Policies in South Florida
An attempt at network analysis was made for a better understanding of the relationships present within the Miami-Dade County water utility system
The analysis process could not be finished because the meaning of the attributes is unknown at this point
Information has been requested
The data was also not complete because it covered only the county water utility system and not certain towns in our area of interest
A GIS Based Decision Support System for Hazards Risk Mitigation in the City of Memphis
Develop a GIS-based decision-support system to assist the City of Memphis and Shelby County in evaluating the economic consequences of various hazards risk mitigation strategies.
