Shortly after the Crypt’s completion however, rising costs and the Second

World War forced the scheme’s abandonment, and in its place was

constructed the iconic Cathedral we know today, designed by Sir Frederick

gibberd. The original Crypt however, with its breathtaking scale and beautiful

vaulted halls, remained hidden beneath as one of Liverpool’s best kept

secrets, until a recent £2 million restoration created a new visitor attraction

and events space which now stands unparalleled anywhere in the region.

Liverpool City Centre; it is 5 minutes drive from the M62; there are 12

hotels within 5 minutes walk; it is 30 minutes drive from John Lennon

Airport, and 15 minutes walk from Lime Street train station. The Crypt

has full disabled access and also boasts a 70 capacity underground car

park, a centralised kitchen, a dedicated stage area, licensed bar, on site

The event was attended by over 200 guests and consisted of a three course gala dinner, drinks reception, and live entertainment. The Liverpool beer Festival is one of Liverpool’s most popular and longest running annual events. The event attracts over 5,000 people across three days and has been held in the Crypt for over 10 years.

The word 'Crypt' conjures up a small underground space housing a number of tombs or burial vaults. In the case of the Lutyens Crypt the reality is quite different. Consisting of four vast Neo-Classical Halls and other interior spaces it is a unique building of great architectural importance hidden away under the Metropolitan Cathedral designed by Sir Frederick gibberd.

Everyone who visits or uses the Crypt facilities comments on its grandeur and exclusivity. It not only has that instant ‘wow’ factor but impresses at every level.

Following major refurbishment in 2008, the access to the building and internal facilities are comparable with the best of modern design.
