Dietary modification improves breast cancer survival rates – women’s health issue
Many Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) practitioners advocate food and nutrition advice of reducing intake of fats, sugar and salt in breast cancer patients.
Now, the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute has presented findings at the recent American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) annual meeting regarding dietary modification in breast cancer patients.
They have determined that women who stayed on a low fat diet for approximately eight years significantly reduced their risk of death from invasive breast cancers.
Furthermore, following a low-fat dietary regime also had lower accompanying cardiovascular disease mortality associated with breast cancer.
As breast cancer also has psychological and social stressors associated with it due to the overwhelming nature of the complexity of treatment and pathology, then incorporating lifestyle advice such as mindfulness meditation, moderate yoga, journaling, good nutrition, psychoneuroimmunology, etc can greatly assist the patients cope with the emotional effects of cancer.
