Putnam County Youth Bureau Newsletter
July 10th, 2020
July is National Cell Phone Courtesy month! Put your phone aside and spend some time with friends and family.
Bring these topics to the dinner table with your
family or video chat sessions with friends! Read
the topic aloud and share responses.
1. How much time do you think you spend on
your phone per day?
2. What are some fun things you could do
without your phone?
3. When is a bad time to use your phone?
4. What is your favorite thing to do on your
phone?
5. If you were stranded on a deserted island,
what 3 things would you bring with you OTHER
than your phone?
Take a break from your phone and make
some Honey Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites!
You will need:
Pretzels Honey
Peanut butter Sprinkles
Milk chocolate morsels
How to assemble:
Begin by lining a baking sheet or plate with
parchment paper and spreading out some
pretzels. Next, mix together 1 cup of
peanut butter and 2-3 tablespoons of
honey. Add a dollop of your mixture to
each pretzel and press another pretzel on
top. Place some morsels in a microwave
safe bowl and heat in intervals of 30-50
seconds, making sure to stir in between.
Once completely melted, carefully remove
from the microwave and start dipping your
pretzels. Once dipped, place your treats on
the parchment paper and add your
sprinkles! Place in the fridge for 30
minutes and enjoy!
National Cell Phone Courtesy
Month was created in 2002 by a
woman named Jacqueline
Whitmore with the help of
Sprint. July was named National
Cell Phone Courtesy Month to
encourage us to evaluate our
cellular habits and consider
others before we reach for our
phone. Let’s bring polite phone
usage back in style!

Do:
Silence your phone when spending
time with anyone; be present and let
them know you are listening
Keep your phone in your purse or
pocket; out of sight, out of mind
Step away if need to answer a call;
the entire room does not need to hear
your phone conversation
Be mindful of the volume of your
voice when on a call, loud voices carry
Pause before responding to an
email or text, or before posting on social
media. Make sure what you are about to
type won’t be misinterpreted as negative
or mean, and be sure what you are about
to post isn’t something you will regret
later
Don’t:
Use your phone and drive; phones are a
huge distraction to drivers and using one while
driving puts you and other drivers at serious risk
Rely too heavily on your phone; in-person
communication and socialization is a very
important part of life so don’t miss out on it!
Put the phone down and enjoy some reading
with this DIY Tassel Bookmark!
You will need:
Yarn or string
Paperclip
Scissors
How to assemble:
Begin by choosing your color yarn or string.
Next, wrap your yarn or sting around your
pointer, middle, and ring fingers. Be sure to
spread your fingers out a bit so you can easily
remove the string once you are done
wrapping. The number of times you wrap is
up to you, depending on how thick or thin
you want your tassel to be. Once you have
your desired thickness, cut the remaining
string and use your thumb to hold the
wrapped bundle of string to your pointer
finger. Now, put your pointer, middle, and
ring fingers together, creating room for you
to cut the bundle of string under your ring
finger. Pinch the bundle of string between
your pointer and middle finger, release your
thumb, and slide the bundle off of your
pointer finger. Slide the loop onto your
paperclip all the way around to the top and
secure it with an additional string tied around
the entire bundle.
