DESCRIPTION

My 11-year-old daughter wants a goldfish. She decided to make a presentation to convince us she was ready. Do you think she made her case?

Concerns and SolutionsC = Concerns S = Solutions

● C : I’m not responsible enough

● S: If you let me try you might find I’m more responsible. I’ve gotten all my math homework done for two years. My literacy homework is always finished, sometimes even when you don’t remind me about it (take a moment to look at my evidence) .

● C: Having a fish is a lot of work.

● S: I realize that; if I wasn’t up for the challenge, I wouldn't have made this powerpoint! :). I love animals, and I will care for it well by feeding it, checking it and cleaning its bowl everyday.

“Your fish will die, it’s too much work, you’re too irresponsible, you’ll forget to feed it…”: thinking about the worst

PROSCONS

1. You will get to test my responsibilities 1. A lot of work

2. Our family will finally get a pet

3. I will have to clear (clean!) some space in my

room to put the tank

4. I can finally tell my friends I have a pet

5. All of my friends do … All normal families do.

“OK fine. But where are you going to put it?”

Thats a reasonable question. That’s why I have a answer. BOOYA!! Anyway, my solution is to clear out a big space on my desk and clean it out. I’ll have a fish in bowl not a tank so that will require less room. I can just throw away anything I don’t need, and relocate everything I just threw on my desk, but that doesn’t really belong there. I might need a cleaner table (that may not be as big ) to put my fishbowl in. Also, I think when we redo my room we might get rid of my desk so we will have a lot more room. Plus, when we replace everything it will leave me with a little more room. The other option is to leave the bowl in the kitchen. It might be easier to remember and it might look really nice there and we will for sure have room there.

“Fine, but goldfish are not free.”

True they are not free, but the goldfish themselves are pretty cheap. The bowl and the food are not quite as cheap, you may be thinking. And right you are again. But I am willing to pay ⅝ to the whole price of the fish.

“Well you’ve never really asked.”

Maybe you don’t remember, but I have before. You probably thought I wasn’t serious, but I am. I hope this presentation will show you that.

“Hmm. I’ll think about it.”

See, here’s the thing: NO YOU WON’T!! I think we should set a decision date so you won’t forget about it.
