In a dictatorship, one person, called a Dictator, has absolute power. Sometimes a country run by dictatorship may be called a republic. Such republics have only one political party and the Dictator makes most government policies and decisions such as Fiji where the dictator makes all the rules and laws for the country. Fiji’s leader will make new rules for the country but said will not listen to any new suggestions and nobody against his ideas are allowed to speak so there is no freedom of speech even though he promised to make fiji a democracy by 2014 but demands new laws and rules. He is also demanding that the constitution give him immunity from going to prison for any crimes he did when he did the coup or during the military regime. This is an example of a dictator making up all the rules and not thinking of the people.

In a dictatorship you may not have the right to vote for a leader in an election. If an election is allowed there possibly will only be one party you can vote for, for instance the Communist party in China which you can’t vote for who is the leader of the country because it is dictatorship and you don’t have a say on who should be the leader of the country.
