The big issues
Major shifts in the geopolitics of international Higher Education
• The threat to the classical public Humboldt type research- intensive university by under-investment and over-regulation
• Huge investments in HE and Research in China and Asia• Research universities to generate growth in national
knowledge-based economies• The heightened link between science, technology and
securitization• Increased competition for high quality human capital on an
intensively competitive global job market
Dias 10 Dias 10
Rationales for internationalization at a Research intensive University
• Tap a worldwide pool of talent
• Improve academic quality and enhance global reputation
• Match government policies (attract knowledge workers)
• Prepare students for a globalized, intercultural world
• Strengthen knowledge capacity building – working with developing countries/Emergent Markets
• Diversity in source of income

IARU Presidents' Statement on Campus Sustainability
Addressing the impacts of climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the global community. While individual commitment to modifying the human impact on the environment is needed, this response must be lead by governments, industry and academia.
The International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), comprising 10 of the world's leading Universities, has committed to providing leadership
