Dolphin Class Assembly

Congratulations to Dolphin class for a brilliant class

assembly this week. Our youngest children shared

their learning on life cycles, based on the book The

Very Hungry Caterpillar. Dolphin class have been

intrigued by watching their very own caterpillars in

the classroom and our tadpoles growing in the school

pond. They shared their learning with confidence and

enthusiasm and we are all very proud of them. It is

always lovely to see how far our children progress in

their first year at school. Well done Dolphins!

Outdoor Learning

Next week is outdoor learning week, so we are

planning to move outside for much of our learning.

Children at Ryarsh are lucky to have such extensive

school grounds and this is always a wonderfully

creative week. Our planned activities include

observing the creatures in our school pond, having

outdoor assemblies, learning Maths outdoors and

taking part in an orienteering challenge in the school grounds.

Enjoy your weekend. Ruth Austin [email protected]

Our favourite Learning by Lion class On Tuesday we went to Kent Life Stone Age Day. We had the best time ever, we learnt lots

about the Stone Age at different workshops. We learnt how to make spears, make weapons

and sling shots. We had a special target (Mrs Hirst!)

We learnt how to grind wheat into flour and we

are hoping the sun comes out next week to try to

make a loaf of bread.

We acted out parts of the Stone Age Hunter

Gatherers and learnt about the Neolithic period.

There were lots of baby lambs and we

were able to feed them a bottle of milk. It

was an amazing day!

Battery Recycling Challenge Please bring your used batteries to school for recycling

and help us earn rewards to spend on resources. The more we collect, the more we raise.

Take a look in our learning journals! We will be learning outside a lot for Outdoor

Learning week! We will be looking at the

tadpoles in the pond, recording how much

they have grown. We will be going on a shape

hunt. We will be writing a senses poem about

what we can see and hear outside!

What is a frog’s

life cycle?

This week we have been busy learning about

measurement in Maths. We began using a ruler to

measure in cm and have been weighing objects using

bucket balances.

In English we have been planning and begun writing our

own Jack and the Jellybean Stalk stories using ourselves

as the main character and choosing our own giants and

settings.

We are really looking forwards to Outdoor

Learning week and, of course, our school trip

to Trosley Country Park!

We will be doing maths activities outside,

going pond dipping, working with year 5 on

some outdoor art and watching our

sunflowers, beans and butterflies grow!

Can you tell me

your jellybean

stalk story?

This week the children have worked sooooo hard and

tried their very best with the SATs assessments. We are

very proud of them all.

We have also been continuing with our Scottish dancing,

learning about Katie Morag and we wrote recipes for

friendship in PSHE.

Next week is Outdoor Learning week. We will

be doing various Maths activities outdoors,

pond dipping, making rangoli patterns with

chalk as well as having our DT day and RE

day.

What do you

think makes a

good friend?

In English this week we have finished our non-fiction

page. We are very pleased with all our facts and sub-

headings. We have also started to plan our persuasive

leaflets ready to send to Kent Life.

In Maths we have learnt all about perpendicular, parallel,

horizontal and vertical lines. We have also learnt about

right angles.

We had our school trip which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We are going to start creating our persuasive

leaflets. I have emailed Kent Life and they are

excited to receive our leaflets. In Maths we are

going to design a new playground applying

our knowledge on shape, measurement and

money. We are having a RE day and will be

visiting the church. We will also be creating a

Hungry Caterpillar book in French.

What did you

learn on our

school trip?

This week in English we have been writing our own diary

entry based on our recent class trip to Kent Living Lands.

We have been investigating how we can use language to

show how time has passed throughout the day.

In maths, we have been creating various types of graphs

to show information about our trip to the Living Land.

In English we will be writing up our diary

entry before using our Outdoor Learning

Week to focus on poetry.

In maths, we are looking forward to lots of fun

outdoor learning to improving our skills when

calculating area and perimeter.

What is the

difference

between

discrete and

continuous

data?

We have loved meeting the characters of Bradley and Jeff

in our new class text—’There’s a boy in the girls’

bathroom. ‘ In Maths, we have looked at imperial

measures to understand some of the units used. We also

made some amazing flower pictures to support our

Science understanding.

We will continue to work on our story and

will use this to influence some different types

of writing. We will be working on problem

solving and explaining our mathematical

reasoning. We are looking forward to using

the outside learning environment.

What do you

know about

imperial units of

measurement?

This week we have been writing our own newspaper

reports based on the story of Snow White in New York;

with some hard work and dedication we have created

some brilliant work!

In maths we have used our investigative skills when

exploring the properties of numbers.

We will be using Snow White in New York as a

basis for some short narrative pieces of

writing.

We will be using our outdoor learning

environment to support our work in maths.
