PHOTOGRAPHING & VIDEOING
Please be aware that not all of our students have photograph or videoing permission, hence it is a timely reminder to ensure that you only record your own child/ren or you seek permission from the school or other child’s parents before filming or taking pictures without permission. Thank you for being vigilant with this matter.
SCHOOL PAINTING
The painting is in its final stages and should be completed any day now. This has been a huge process with our walkways to be painted in the second round of school beautification.
FOUNDA pair of sunglasses have been
handed in to the school office last week. Please see office staff to
identify and claim.
EDUCATION WEEK & BOOK PARADE
The children thoroughly enjoyed celebrating their educational success through classroom walk-throughs and parading for our visitors as their favourite book character. A huge thank you to our parents and grandparents who sourced or sewed costumes. They were very creative and we had such an array of characters. The children love sharing events with family and friends.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
We had two children from each Stage attend our Zone Public Speaking finals through last week. It is a huge achievement to make it to Zone level and we congratulate all of the children who attended. We are also extremely proud of Chloe R. and Lyla N. for achieving Highly Commended awards for this competition. Well done!
GATS CAMP
We had a small cohort of students attend specialised GATs camps during Week 2 of this term. Marley attended for English with Harry and Thomas attending for Sports Science. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, albeit quite a few late nights.
VEGETABLE STALL
Our environmental group await your purchases at our vegetable stall most Thursday afternoons. They are located directly outside the office. We have quite an array for sale at the moment and the children enjoy picking fresh produce at lunchtime for our family and friends. Come along and support our “green finger” environmental group.
ENROLMENTS
If your child is age appropriate for Kindergarten next year, please come and get an enrolment form from the office. This will ensure that you are informed about playdates, events, orientation times/days and parent information nights. Our current Kindergarten has been a huge success and we are looking forward to another great year for 2020! In addition, if you are aware of new families moving into the area, we are happy to provide a guided tour and introduction to the school at a convenient time.
Reminder: Open classroom in Week 5, Friday 23 Aug, from 2-3pm.
STEM EXPO
The Galgabba STEM Expo will be held on Tuesday 20 August from 5.30pm at Swansea HS. We will have quite a few groups from 5/6 attending with their entries. In addition, there will be special guests and the chance to see STEM projects from Swansea High School. This is an open event, meaning the community is welcome to attend.
OUT OF UNIFORM MUFTI DAY - GOLD COIN DONATION
We will be holding a Mufti Day this Friday 16 August to help with funding for Harry and Emerson to compete at the National Cross Country. Students may come dressed as their favourite sports person or team for a gold coin donation. Class 5/6 will also be holding a cake stall on the day to support our competitors.
HUNTER DANCE COSTUMES
It would be appreciated if all costumes could be returned to the school as soon as possible. Thank you.

P&C UPDATE
Canteen
In an effort to further reduce the waste created by the canteen we no longer sell plastic sauce satchels. Our canteen volunteers now put a bottle of tomato and BBQ sauce in each class lunch tub for students to apply sauce to their own lunch. We no longer charge for sauce and the menu was recently updated to reflect this change.
Working Bee
This Friday is the P&C working bee. The cubby house needs to be painted, gardens weeded, planting done and a general clean up of the school grounds after the tree removal. Volunteers can help at any time during the day. Please sign in and out at the office.
Bunnings Cake Stall
The P&C is hosting a cake stall at Belmont Bunnings on Saturday 14 September. The cake stall will run from 9.30am to midday. We need volunteers for this fundraiser and will be asking for cakes/slices to be donated. We need a few people to make up cake packs on the Friday afternoon and we need volunteers to work on the stall. Please advise the office if you can help.
Pie Drive
The P&C will be organising a pie drive this term. Order forms will be sent out in a few weeks time.

REQUEST FOR ALL SCHOOL MAINTENANCE LOCAL TRADES PROVIDERS AND SUPPLIERS
The NSW Government has committed the largest investment in planned maintenance at public schools in the history of NSW. A record $1.3 billion is being spent on an ambitious delivery program, focused on employing local businesses and contractors across the state.
To assist in addressing regional school maintenance issues and, at the same time, provide work for local trade’s persons and suppliers across the Hunter / Central Coast regions, over $100 million is being invested to upgrade and maintain our school infrastructure.
Given this record spend by School Infrastructure NSW, you are invited to an Asset Management Unit industry breakfast briefing. This will provide information to existing and new contractors on how you can get involved.
To find out more by attending our Industry breakfast register at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/industry-engagement-information-session-tickets-65766578607 or contact your Asset Management Unit on 4088 3500.
