FROM THE PRINCIPAL
WOW WOW WOW!
Last night I had the pleasure of witnessing our amazing dance teams perform at the
Hawkesbury Dance Festival. There were some amazing performances but I really think
out teams shone above the rest. Our dance teams have practised and practised and last
night, all of that hard work paid off. Special thanks goes to our teachers Mrs Cormack,
Mrs Wood, Mrs Muscat and Miss Willmer for giving up their lunch breaks to rehearse
and prepare costumes. Thank you also to the parents of our dancers who transported
their children to the festival last night; I'm sure you will agree that Kurrajong Kids have
really got talent!

GRANDPARENT’S DAY Tomorrow our students would like to invite their grandparent’s to come along and celebrate Grandparent’s Day. There will be a special morning assembly, some book sharing in their classrooms and then a picnic morning tea in our playground. An invitation will be sent home today. We hope to see you there!
BANDANNA DAY
This year, the SRC are leading a fundraiser to support CanTeen Bandanna Day. This day is held every year to raise money to support young people living with cancer. Every dollar raised will help CanTeen provide both practical and emotional support for young people. Bandannas have been on sale for the past two weeks and students can wear their bandannas with their school uniform until tomorrow, Friday 25 October - National Bandanna Day. SWIMMING SCHEME The School Swimming Scheme run by the Department of Education will commence from Monday 28 October until Friday 8 November for all students. I strongly urge you to carefully consider your child’s swimming skills and enrol them in the 2019 School Swimming Scheme. Please remember that this is your decision as a parent, not your child’s. Permission notes have already been sent home but there are still one or two vacancies if you get in quickly. GYMNASTICS Last week the ‘Be Skilled Be Active’ gymnastics program began. The students had a wonderful time learning how to do a variety of tricks on the mini tramp and springboard. Students will participate in lessons for 8 weeks. If you have not already paid or are experiencing financial difficulty please contact the office as soon as possible. SELECTIVE HIGH SCHOOLS 2020 Applications for selective high school placement in Year 7 in 2020 opened on 8 October 2019 and will close on 11 November 2019 at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selectivehigh-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7. The Selective High School Placement Test is on 14 March 2020. To be considered for placement students must sit the Selective High School Placement Test. For information about applying and the placement process go to: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunityclasses/year-7.
Some selective high schools have vacancies in Years 8 to 12. Applications open in late June for placement the following year. For information about applying and the placement process go to: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunityclasses/years-8-to-12. STAFF CARPARK For the safety of our students we ask that parents do not use our staff car park when picking up or dropping off their children. This includes using the carpark as a thoroughfare or short cut. TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEYS Parents are asked to complete a survey online at the following link. The TTFM survey window is now open and will be until Friday 25 October 2019. To participate in the school survey please follow the attached URL address; http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/kurra19 LOST PROPERTY With the end of winter and the start of the warmer weather, there are many unused jumpers, loitering like lost teens, under the cola. Please check these don’t belong to your child. It is also an opportune time to ensure your child has their own jumper and not picked up someone else’s clothing. Please ensure all clothing has your child’s name printed clearly on it. ARE YOU LEAVING US? We are currently in the process of looking at our class structures for 2020. We realise some families move or have a variety of changes occur, which may result in them having to leave our school. If you anticipate that you and your family will not be with us next year, please contact Mrs Bartley in the office and let her know. This information is vital to us, so we can ensure we form the correct classes and support structures for our students in 2020. SYDNEY WEST REGIONAL ATHLETICS Congratulations to the Sydney West Regional Athletics competitors. Each and every student represented the Hawkesbury District with pride and showed great sportsmanship. Well done Team! Good luck to Eva, Jake, Jordan, Tilly and Thomas who will go on to compete at the PSSA State Athletics Carnival representing Sydney West.

Stage 1 Boot Camp
What a blast we had at the Stage 1 Boot Camp!
We loved playing dodge ball, speed ball, tug o war,
balloon tennis and water relays.
We proudly marched with our ‘Kurrajong Koala’ mascot and
displayed true sportsmanship by cheering on all the teams.
Time Warp to TERM 3...
Leadership Day In Term 3, Year 5 students
attended ‘Leadership Day’ where they extended their
interpersonal skills and reflected on what being a
leader means to them. Students from local schools
were lead through activities by Year 10 students from
Colo High, to exercise their leadership ‘muscles’ and
practice their public speaking. The most valuable part
of the day is that students get to know the students
they will potentially spend their high school years with.
The Waratahs
Term 3 saw the Waratahs compete in a close debate against
Jasper Road Public School where the topic was ‘That the school
day should be extended’. As the affirmative team, the Waratahs
delivered a strong case and won which saw them make it through
to the Regional Semi Final against Glenbrook Blue.
The debate against Glenbrook was held this week and
unfortunately, the Waratahs were narrowly beaten. Having made it
as far as they did is a great achievement and we are extremely
proud of their progress through this challenging competition.
Merana Cultural Tent
In Term 3, Miss Cafiero attended the launch of a
new cultural tent and history program that has
been put together by our local Merana Aboriginal
Community Association for the Hawkesbury. It was
fabulous to see this program being supported by
so many local schools and people in our
community. Uncle Les held a smoking ceremony
and explained the significance of this for
Indigenous Australians. We looked at artefacts,
shared stories and enjoyed music by local artists.
Kurrajong Public School will definitely be
organising a visit from Merana during 2020.
If you’d like more information about the The Merana
Community Centre, it is located in Richmond and provides
programs, support, services and direct interaction for local
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island families and students.
Their contact number is (02) 4588 5144 and Merana can
also be contacted via their Facebook page.

Personal Learning Pathways
It has been wonderful connecting with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island students and their
families while following up on their Personal Learning Plans. Through this process, student
voice is gathered and in consultation with their families, personal learning approaches are
applied to student learning to identify short term or long term goals.
Thank you to all family and carers who have supported this process. If you would like to discuss
your childs’ Personal Learning Pathway further or would like to be a part of our local AECG
(Aboriginal Education Consultation Group) please call the office to arrange a time to catch up
with Miss Cafiero.
