to seek extra support.

CURRENT FOCUS
HONESTY & TRUST
We often hear the words honesty and trust and we tend to associate them with people we know. These qualities are also a part of our school values. We would all like other people to see us as being honest and trustworthy. These qualities include being fair, honourable, open, genuine, decent, creditable, truthful, respected, sincere and reliable. There are many opportunities for us to display these qualities with our friends, teachers and parents/carers.
Being a good friend, an effective member of both our school and our own local community relies on us displaying qualities of being honest and trustworthy. These qualities can be shown in your daily interactions with people through your actions and words. Karen McHugh

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
I am writing to provide an update on the Semester 1 student reports at Daylesford Drummond and Yandoit Primary Schools.
The Department of Education and Training has adjusted the expectations of Student Reports for Semester 1 in recognition of the transition to remote and flexible learning during Term 2.
While our school has continued to deliver its teaching and learning program and monitor the achievement and progress of each student, there will be some changes to our usual report format.
Student reports for Semester 1 2020 will include:
a description of the topics that have been covered in the first half of the year
comments regarding what students have achieved during the first two terms
a comment on how the students participated in the remote learning program
In the second last week of term we will be sending out some information about our Term 3 parent teacher interviews. This will be a great chance to have a discussion about your child’s progress and also their goals for the remainder of the year.
There has probably never been a time where that direct conversation has been more important .Therefore I would encourage all families to take up this opportunity.
The one thing that I have noticed since students have been on site is the progress students have made with their independent learning skills.
Facilities Update Last week our facilities sub-committee met to update a number of projects at our school Firstly the toilet project is zeroing in on completion and we should be up and running for the resumption of school on Wednesday. The main parts of the work have been the painting, the replastering and the installation of four brand new skylights. As well as that, we had the installation of an epoxy floor which is easier to clean and a whole lot more hygienic.
Our 6 seasons of the Dja Dja Warrung Mural has been commissioned and is underway. We had hoped for Natasha Carter to do the work on site, but the COVID issues have prevented that from happening. We have been very generously supported with funding for this by the Hepburn Shire and Daylesford Rotary. Along with our Garden and our flagpole dedicated to the Indigenous Flag it will be pretty clear that we are on Dja Dja Warrung country.
Finally we have commissioned a local firm to quote on a more significant and much safer fence next to the south end of the P-2 building. It is anticipated that this work can be undertaken during the upcoming July break. At Drummond the Shelter in Place works are well underway and one of the highlights is the new decking that is being installed. It is quite aesthetic as well as being more fit for purpose.
At the Yandoit site Matt, Dave and Michelle have been doing a power of work reorganising the resources at the school. It would be fair to say that Yandoit has an exceptional array of resources for the kids to use. The Art room is a beautiful space, with plenty of materials to encourage creativity.
Arrangements for next week Wednesday 10th until further notice from Karen our Assistant Principal
We are happy and excited to welcome back our Gr 3-6 students.

RRRR Emotional literacy
This week Foundation students have investigated the concept of Belonging with a First Nations perspective.
To belong is to be a part of a family. We know that families can take different shapes – Our home family. Our class family. Our school family. Our community family and Our nature family (the trees, the earth, the animals).
The children read stories, learned about the aboriginal flag, and made their own stories about their place and family. Here are their words to describe how they feel when they belong.
When we belong, we feel… safe, comfortable, love, warm, fuzzy, content, calm, at home.
The land is our First Nation people’s family if they lose connection then they lose their Belonging. We understand. We walk together.

Funded Three-Year-Old Kindergarten available in

Clunes & District Preschool, Creswick & District
Preschool, Daylesford Preschool, Hepburn Kindergarten
& Trentham Kindergarten will be offering 15 hours of
funded kindergarten each week for children who turn 3
before April 30, 2021.
Educational and social benefits Research shows that play-based learning is a powerful way to
support children’s development. And these benefits last into the
school years and beyond.
The evidence also shows that two years are better than one when
it comes to early learning.
A quality kindergarten program will have more of an impact for
children who start at age 3 rather than 4.
Enrol your child for
2021 now.
