Challenges for Marin Transit/ Golden Gate Transit

• Escalating cost of service delivery

• Specialty services for Seniors/ expansion of paratransit-type service–Senior Mobility Management

• Unique system of bus pad facilities on Highway 101- need for upgrades in access

• PDA requirements for frequent bus service cannot be accomplished with steadily decreasing operating revenues

• Station Area Planning around SMART station sites ongoing

• Recreational trip transit options are scarce

TAM manages the Measure A Local Transportation Sales Tax-

½ cent sales tax for 20 years

Highways and Local Roads

• As a pass-thru county for travel trips, widening Hwy 101 remains challenging given high cost of highway projects and low levels of formulaic funding– Complex funding plans demand reliable sources

• Local street and road rehab is complex- need to address multiple users- Complete Streets– Over $500 million in unfunded LSR rehab need not in

RTP

• Flexibility in design – Limited rights of way– Keep cost at attainable level

Multi-Modal approach to meeting needs

• Non-motorized Transportation Pilot Program- continued

• Safe Routes to School- flexibility is key

• SB 375- Sustainable Community Strategy, SCS- County contribution should be unique, what we can’t do in land use densities, we can contribute in unique transportation solutions

• Reduce overall congestion, not just Highway 101

• Fund sources must be flexible to respond to different needs– MTC block grant
