  • WIRING DIAGRAMSTypes of Electrical Diagrams or Schematics

There are three ways to show electrical circuits, They are: Wiring diagrams Schematic diagrams and pictorial diagrams. The two most commonly used are the wiring diagram and the schematic diagram. 9/2/2009*

  • Purpose of wiring diagramsAn electric circuit consist of the following componentsSource (batteries)Load (Bulb)Control device (switch)Conductor (wires)9/2/2009*

  • Schematic Diagram A schematic is a diagram that represents the elements of a system using abstract, graphic symbols rather than realistic pictures. In an electronic circuit diagram, the layout of the symbols may not resemble the layout in the physical circuit. In the schematic diagram, the symbolic elements are arranged to be more easily interpreted by the viewer.9/2/2009*

  • Wiring Diagram A wiring diagram is a simplified conventional pictorial representation of an electrical circuit. It shows the components of the circuit as simplified shapes, and the power and signal connections between the devices. A wiring diagram usually gives more information about the relative position and arrangement of devices and terminals on the devices, as an aid in construction the device. This is unlike a schematic diagram where the arrangement of the components interconnections on the diagram does not correspond to their physical locations in the finished device. 9/2/2009*

  • Pictorial Diagram A pictorial diagram would show more detail of the physical appearance, whereas a wiring diagram uses a more symbolic notation to emphasize interconnections over physical appearance.

A wiring diagram is used to troubleshoot problems and to make sure that all the connections have been made and that everything is present.
