nerves in the body that occurs due to high blood sugar levels from diabetes.
![Page 3: Diabetic neuropathy](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061205/54808142b4af9f182a8b45de/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
People with diabetes can, over time, develop nerve damage throughout the body.

How can we diagnose?
Symptoms & physical Examination.

A lack of reflexes in the ankle.
A loss of feeling in the feet .
Changes in the skin. Drop in blood pressure
when you stand up after sitting or lying down

Electromyogram (EMG)
measures the electrical discharges produced in the muscles.
![Page 10: Diabetic neuropathy](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061205/54808142b4af9f182a8b45de/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Nerve conduction velocity tests (NCV)
This test measures how quickly the nerves
in your arms and legs conduct electrical signals.
![Page 11: Diabetic neuropathy](https://reader033.vdocuments.us/reader033/viewer/2022061205/54808142b4af9f182a8b45de/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Filament test.
Sensitivity to touch
using a soft nylon fiber called a monofilament

Management
No definitive treatment.
Our aim to:Slowing progression of the disease
Relieving painManaging complications and restoring
function

Slowing progression of the disease
keeping blood sugar within a narrow target range.
these may reduce your overall risk of diabetic neuropathy by as much as 60 percent.

Slowing progression of the disease
help to slow nerve damage by keebing away from risk factors.
E.g. smoking, obesity & alcohol.
