• January 2016- 1st cohort began
• 5 completed, 4 in progress and 4 starting in January 2020
• In October, 2018 Augusta Health received CDC recognition as an effective diabetes prevention program

NIH Study Results: Study determined that reducing calories and
increasing activity reduced the risk of developing T2 diabetes by 58% in those who were at high risk for the disease
For people over 60 y/o, risk was reduced by 71 %
Even after 10 years, those participants who participated in the program, had a 34 % lower rate of T2

• Year long program • 16 weeks in the first 6 months, 6 weeks in the
second 6 months
• Can be classroom, virtual, on-line or combination
• Class led by trained Certified Lifestyle Coaches
• Meetings are one hour in length

• Screen and refer to a local program
• Consider becoming Lifestyle Coach and leading a cohort in your community
• Consider offering glucose/A1c testing in the dental setting (ADA codes have been created)
