The Ohio Department of Transportation, District 12 is responsible for the maintenance and construction of all interstates and U.S. and State Routes in unincorporated municipalities in Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties.

Every spring, we shift our focus from snow and ice removal to the construction and repair of our roadways. Improvement of the highway network is a positive and necessary responsibility. By improving traffic flow, ODOT provides a smooth, safe and efficient ride for travel and commerce in the region.

The 2009 Construction Guide includes major construction projects in the District 12, three-county area. Projects to which ODOT has contributed money but are administered by local agencies are listed at the back of the book.

As with every construction season, we ask motorists to use caution when traveling through work zones. By obeying posted speed limits and exercising caution, motorists can do their part to keep both our construction employees and fellow motorists safe.

Project i.d.: 21272 descriPtion: Construction of a grade separation to include three bridges to carry Front Street over the CSX and NS railroad tracks and an access road between Second Avenue and North Rocky River Drive in Berea. iMPact: The complete closure of State Route 237 is expected on or around May 4, 2009 and will remain closed until late summer 2010. Access to driveways will be maintained throughout the length of the project however access points will vary as construc-tion progresses.

descriPtion: Replace the Fulton Road Bridge over the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

iMPact: Fulton Road is closed. Motorists are detoured for the duration of the project. Motorists are detoured via Denison Ave., Pearl Rd. and Memphis Ave. The entrance to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo by way of Fulton Parkway is open.

iMPact: Traffic will be shifted to the outside as crews build new pavement including the widened portion of I-77. During mid-sum-mer crews will shift traffic to the inside as they work to rebuild the outside lanes. Lane closures are expected during off-peak hours.

Signal upgrades in the city of Parma. Short-term, single lane closures continue as crews work to repair and replace signals at the intersection. Begin: Septem-ber 2006/Complete: May 2009

interstate 271Resurfacing between Columbus Road and Emery Road in Bedford Heights & Warrensville Heights. Resurfacing is complete. Only minor operations remain. Traffic will be maintained. Begin: April 2008/Complete: May 2009

Mainline and ramp rehabilitation between the Valley View Bridge and Tuxedo Avenue and slope repair in the city of Independence. Major work is complete. Minor work including permanent striping and seeding will be completed during the spring of 2009. Begin: May 2006/Complete: May 2009

Resurfacing between W. 130th Street and the Rocky River Bridge in the cities of Brook Park and Cleveland. Major work is complete. Pavement replacement, electrical work, landscaping and various minor work remains. Only minor im-pacts to traffic are expected. Begin: April 2007/Complete: April 2009
