    ACC Puts Four Institutions in Top 10

    CLEVELAND Virginia has jumped into the top 10 after turning in a spring-high 359.00 points in the firstspring Learfield Sports Directors Cup Standings. The Cavaliers took home the mens lacrosse nationalchampionship, while also finishing second in mens tennis, fourth in womens golf and ninth in bothwomens lacrosse and womens tennis.

    Stanford again finds itself in the top spot with 1387.50 total points. The Cardinal won the womens waterpolo crown and turned in additional results of second in womens tennis, fifth in mens tennis, ninth inwomens lacrosse and 23rd in womens golf.

    In second place with 1122.30 points is Ohio State. The Buckeyes finished first in mens volleyball, third inmens tennis and 21st in womens golf.

    North Carolina has moved into third with 1070.25 points. The Tar Heels garnered finishes of third inwomens lacrosse, fifth in womens tennis, eighth in womens golf, ninth in mens lacrosse and 17 th inmens tennis.

    Duke sits in fourth with 991.50 points as a result of finishing third in both womens and mens lacrosse,fifth in womens tennis, ninth in mens tennis and 25th in womens golf.

    Rounding out the top five with is Penn State. The Nittany Lions increased their point total to 889.05 afterfinishing third in mens volleyball.

    The ACC is leading the current conference standings, with four of its member institutions currently in thetop 10. ACC institutions in the top 10 include North Carolina, Duke, Virginia (ninth) and Maryland (10th).

    Seven spring NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles:womens golf - UCLA; womens lacrosse Northwestern; mens lacrosse Virginia; womens tennis

    Florida; mens tennis Southern California; mens volleyball Ohio State; and womens water polo Stanford.

    The Learfield Sports Directors Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association ofCollegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on eachinstitution's finish in up to 20 sports -- 10 womens and 10 mens.

    The next Division I standings will be released Friday, June 17 in conjunction with the NACDAConvention and Learfield Sports Directors Cup Luncheon presented by the USOC.
