Differentiating Instruction: Purpose

Establishing an environment that contributes to the teaching and learning of a diverse student population

Selecting the appropriate instructional strategies and best practices to maximize instruction

The Goal: To provide many, varied opportunities for students

to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

If we are to ensure equity for all our students, we must teach to the standards. At the same time, we must differentiate instruction and assessments to meet the individual student needs.

Differentiated instruction provides multiple entry points that all student of different abilities and strengths to demonstrate their knowledge based on what has been taught.
