Bred in Kirra on Queensland's Gold Coast, Darren Handley has lived and breathed surng his entire life. At the age of 12 he started sweeping oors at the local surfboard factory, which eventually led him toMurray Bourton's infamous Pipedream factory. This is where Darren Handley learnt all aspects of board production. After 10 years with Pipedream Surfboards he branched out to launch his own label DHD (DarDHD (Darren Handley Designs).

Darren Handley has travelled the world, surng every type of wave to create the perfect surfboard. But it's the famed "Superbank"surf break on the Gold Coast, that provides an incredibly high performance environment that allows Darren Handley to make the fastest, most responsive boards in the world, ridden by the best surfers in the world.

AApart from having the world's best riders lining up to ride his shapes, his staff are at a very high level of surng and this has been the catalyst for DHD reaching such high standards of production.

Darren Handley continues to remain at the forefront of cutting edge surfboard design and sets industry bench marks for quality and performance.

This year we made a few slight changes. Nose a touch fuller,

more volume in the rails and tail. This has made the Mick Pro

more user friendly to all those surfers who want to feel what

it is like to surf one of Mick’s boards.

This is Mick’s step down board for waves under 4 ft. The coffee bean ies in all

types of conditions. Its versatility lies within its wide nose/tail combo and

Mick’s signature small wave rocker. A great high performance grovellor.

For 2010 we have realised that the rocker on this board is that fast, we had to

reduce the tail and nose width a bit. Allowing the board to be a step down board

and all rounder.

Page 7: DHD Surfboards 2010

The Mick Fanning Junior has been a popular model for the groms.

Its more high performance and more rened than the Lil’d.

The LIL Mick is a scaled down version of the MF pro. This

is a great board for the grom that wants to take it to

the next level.

Mick wanted a fun board to play around on when he wasn’t competing

on the tour. The result was the Swivel. This wide nose hybrid is all about

having fun. Ride it 3-4 inches shorter and ¾ - 1 inch wider than your

normal short board. Ride it as a thruster or twinny, either way it’s

going to be one of the best shes you have ever owned. I have made a

few changes to the 2010 Swivel. There is a touch less rocker and more

thicthickness throughout. This extra volume allows Mick to ride a smaller

board in smaller waves and still have the carry and speed to throw the

board around in small waves.

2 x time world champ Steph Gilmore’s signature model.

Specically designed for Steph's owing and explosive

style. The Steph pro is a great board for any surfer who

wants a functional well balanced board.

After having so much fun riding the Bobby Monster as a

quad in America, Steph thought we should do a fun model

for the girls. The Cherry Bomb is the perfect board for all

those girls starting up, or those who just want to have some

fun. I have kept plenty of foam in the board so it

is an easy paddler and catches plenty of waves. I have

also inalso incorporated a performance rocker, plan-shape and

forgiving rails. So once you get the hang of it the board

will perform and you can start tearing it up. Once you have

mastered the Cherry Bomb you will be ready for the

Steph Pro Model.

After working together for over a year, rening Bobby's performance boards,

Bobby and DH decided it was time to have some fun. So they created the

'Bobby Monster'. A small wave board designed for Bobby to have some fun

in the conditions he would normally not bother surng. A little wider in the

nose and tail with a rounded pin and a little more thickness in the rail.

The Bobby Monster is a fun, fast board with great planing speed. Quick

rrelease off the top and on rail, creates a board that opens up Bobby's surng

with some carving turns as well as top to bottom power surng. A perfect

board for those that want to have some fun in smaller waves whilst still

pushing the performance of their equipment and surng. Bobby rides a

5'10, 18 1/2, 2 5/16 and can be ridden as a thruster or quad n.

Bobby joined the DHD team in 08 and Darren has been working on rening

his model since. A very similar rocker to the MF Pro, but with a slightly

atter tail and narrower nose. The bobby board is the next level in high

performance surf board design. In 09 we didn't change a lot. Now that

Bobby has been working me with more for a while, our slight changes have

rened the model and as a result the Bobby Pro is now more user friendly

ffor the everyday surfer. It was a great result in Tahiti and a great measure

to where we are at with his boards. In waves like Tahiti you need to be

condent with your equipment and Bobby winning was a rewarding result

for us both.

The Margo Pro is inspired by Margo’s love of power

surng. Built specically for the bigger surfer that

knows his way around a board. Also popular with

the beginner crowd for its easy paddling and

stability. This board will perform under pressure

as well as giving the beginner or intermediate a

fasfast, loose ride. Building a board for Margo

was a great challenge, the guy is huge and he can

tear it up like a grom or hack at it like the

powerhouse we know him as. Over the years

I have worked with Margo rening this

model to create a board that gives him the speed

and looseness he wants as well as the hold and

dridrive he needs when he puts it under pressure

The Margo Nugget is the latest collaborative concept

from the creative minds of DH and powerhouse team

rider Brendan Margieson. After 6 months of

developing and ne tuning, the nugget is a direct

reection of what aggressive, powerful and raw

surng is all about. A little wider and a bit thicker than

the originalthe original “Margo”, the nugget provides extra

buoyancy without sacricing performance. A rened

round tail with a subtle single to double concave

provides acceleration through turns, making this

board perfect for any type of wave.

D Rocker Series

The D Rocker Series is a collection of

Darren Handley’s most successful models

over a long period of time. Although there

may have been slight changes to these

models year by year. The general design

and rockers have not changed and to this

dday are still in popular demand.

Page 15: DHD Surfboards 2010
Page 16: DHD Surfboards 2010

The D1 has been the board of choice for DH’s

team riders and visiting WQS surfers for the

last couple of years. The board’s ability to

excel in all types of conditions worldwide

has made this a high performance favourite.

Mitch Coleborn, Mar, Alain, Corey Ziems,

KieKieren all ride the D1, being such a popular

model with the team we glass the D1 as a light

and strong model with a to a 4x4 diag glass

job with reinforced carbon patches on the rails.

Making it one of the lightest and strongest

boards on the market. This year we have

reduced the ip in the last 4" of the nose.

An all time favourite. Over the last 10 years the D2

has stood the test of time. A perfect blend of rocker

curve combined with a subtle single into double

concave, releasing into a vee through the tail,

makes this board the perfect all rounder.

If you’re planning a surf trip or just need a good

wave board, the D3 is the board for you. 5 years

of R&D in the world’s best waves have made this

into a board that won’t let you down in critical

situations.

Page 17: DHD Surfboards 2010

For 2010 I have decided to bring the Dragony into my D-Rocker Series,

after all it has earned its place amongst the other D's. Over the years the

Dragony has proven a successful traveller’s board. Versatile enough to

surf in any type of wave. From D’bah to Chiba, the wider nose and tail

allow you to get the most out of your session while the extra volume

and atter rocker helps to get into the wave earlier. This is my all rounder

ppeople mover, for average waves. Surfs easy. Lets you get the most out

of your sessions.

I built this board for the groms of the world, based on the Cooly kid’s boards

over the past decade. This is a great all round board at an affordable price.

Basically I have taken everything I have learnt from my team-riders over

the years and shrank it into a performance board for the groms. The rocker,

rails and plan-shape have been rened to suit a young whippy grommet

who is wanting to challenge their surng and take it to the next level.

TThis board will allow groms to throw their weight around and start turning

on rail with power, speed and looseness.

Page 18: DHD Surfboards 2010
Page 19: DHD Surfboards 2010

The weapon was inspired from DH’s favourite

board in the 80’s. Built with 2009 rockers and

concaves while retaining the at deck, boxy

rails and swallow tail from back in the day.

Made for drawn out, rail to rail power surng.

I had been riding my Bat Quad and Jelly Fish

and felt there was still 5% missing in their

performance. It occurred to me that the 5%

missing in one model was found in the other.

So I decided to bring the two together, creating

the Jelly quad. I wanted the speed and looseness

of the quad whilst maiof the quad whilst maintaining the all round

performance of the Jellysh. With a rounded

square yer, plenty of volume and width up

front, the Jelly quad is a fast drivey board that

will get you up and moving on the smaller

days and down the line and on rail on the

bigger days. An easy paddler and a great

wwave catcher.

Page 20: DHD Surfboards 2010

I was inspired by Micks style and grace on a single n.

The result is the Butter Box. A blend of old school

ow and modern day grunt. This board is perfect for

owing down the line waves and punchy ‘A’ frames

With the ever increasing number of “keel “shes

ooding the market place. I have decided to

make a functional Australian made performance

twin n that actually carves. Plenty of volume and

width but with a contemporary rocker and bottom

contours. The Evil Twin will bring a spark back into

yyour retro style.
