About the Community

• Geographical Location: Harwar,a village situated 1km interior to the Jaipur – Delhi Highway in Gram Panchayat Dhand, Block Amer, Dist. Jaipur known for its rate of migration of local people and Brain Drain for the purpose of employment opportunities. Located in the midst of sandy ground with the distances between the hamlets and far from the available resources.

• Cultural Background: A village with the majority of population of Meena, Gurjar and Brahmin community with a orthodox traditional a Veiling system, females not allowed to go outside or giving more exposures. People mainly depends on Agriculture and Labor work in NREGS or migrating to the other places.

• Role of Satya Bharti School in the Village: A tremendous work done by the Satya Bharti School from the last two years, encouraged girl child enrollment and retention. Enrollment of 115 students from the very small catchment area and in spite of the presence of other private schools. People now understands the importance of education and dignity of women in the society.

• Participation in ‘Design for Giving’ School Contest: Near about all the community members participated in the campaign to be a part of this revolution. There was unexpected response from the community, all are supported us and the appreciated and encouraged the students too much.

The concept is all about the giving back to the Elders as much we can. To return their dignity and realize their importance in the society. The campaign aimed to highlight the importance of inculcating and incorporating the feeling for Age care and to the students and youth through our school students, so that the younger generation understands the needs of the aged and their importance in life at an early stage. The Ageing needs to realize that the health is their single best asset and to avoid smoking ganja or bidi and chewing guthka is injurious to health.

We ‘Felt’:

Page 5: dfc harvar, jaipur

Our students passed through the experience that living with parents and giving them happiness is not an obligation but it is a persons inherent duty. Parents have brought us in this world and have sacrificed all their needs just to bring us up. We should not leave any stone unturned to give them back their share of happiness. And yes, it should not sound as a formality rather it should be out from heart. At least the elders get a preventive health check up by the support of the community members and local leaders every year, be physically active, eat a healthy diet, stay at healthy weigh, be tobacco and alcohol free and take preventive medicines when needed so as to play the very active and participatory role and decision making for the welfare for all.

We ‘Imagined’:

Making Awareness among the community regarding the concerned subject, associating every part from the community including PRI representatives and local leaders and donors for strengthening the campaign, conducting rallies, role plays and effective use of information, education and communication, home visits and meetings with the community through focused group discussions. Initiate home based elder’s education and literacy program.

We ‘Did’:

Page 7: dfc harvar, jaipur

• All elders became aware of their health status by regular undergoing medicheck.

• Elders live as independently and as close to the community to which they belong.

• Participated in a mob in a foot march to spread the concept and associate more people to the campaign.

• The is a peer exchange of thoughts between the elders and abolishing the communication gap.

• The community itself spreaded the messages of this harmony to feel the fragrance of Age care.

• The movement give a velocity to the feeling of Elders to overcome of their hesitation to visit school and take effective participation in all the activities.

• 20 Old people from the community were participated in “Olders Day” on Oct.1st,2011 including Sarpanch, Vice Sarpanch, Ward Panch, elders, youths etc. A group discussion to assess the outcomes and impact of this movement and to make the future plan for the sustainability of the initiative has been taken by the small students of their own village and for their village development with their social empowerment.
