Dexter Baptist Church was constituted April 29, 1906 by a councilcalled for that purpose from Enon, Stovall, and Hester Baptist Churcheswith R. H. Marsh as moderator. J. R. Pace, from Oxford, N. C., preachedthe organizational sermon. The church had 12 charter members from IslandCreek and Stovall Baptist churches plus a few Methodists who found it in-convenient to reach a }1ethodist church. R. H. Marsh was elected as theirfirst pastor. The church joined the Flat River Baptist Association in1906, with a membership of 16.

A BRIEF HISTORYof
DEXTER BAPTIST CHURCH
. Dexter Baptist Ch~rch was organized April 29, 1906 under the leadershipof Elder R.G.Marsh. At first, church services were held one Sunday a month.The church began with twelve charter members. They were: Mr. and Mrs.W.H. Green, Mr. and Mrs. S.A. Green Mr. and Mrs. S.M. Green, Mr. andMrs. E.1. Green, Mr. and Mrs. L.G. 'Williams, Robert Faucett and A.S.Green.
Dr. R.G. Marsh of Oxford became the first pastor in 1907 for a salary of$125.00 per year. S.A. Green became the first Sunday School Superintendentand E.1. Green the first deacon.
In the summer of 1906 Dexter was admitted into the fellowship of the FlatRiver Baptist Association. The first specific offering for foreign missions wastaken in 1911 in the amount of $20.00.
Dexter has been served by fourteen pastors since 1906. They are: R.G.Marsh, 1906-1912; E.G. Usry, 1913-1936; Lowell Sodoman, 1937-1938; L.L.Morgan, 1938-1940; Lee Pridgen, 1941-1942; E.W. Greene, 1942-1948;Thaborn McSwain, 1948-1949; Ray Hodge, 1949-1951; W.1. Edwards, 1952-1956; Eldridge Vinson, 1956-1959; 1immy Burnham, 1960-19?2; ClydeHampton, 1962-1966; Edward Yancey, 1966-1973; Robert Pnce, 1974-present.
