DEX28 TAU D Option – Installation Instructions for Windows XP

Introduction TAU D (a.k.a. CT Adapter) is a Terminal Adapter Unit designed for connection to the Ericsson exchanges ASB 501 (MD110) and ASB 150 (BP) or equivalent and allows voice transmission and signal channel access over the two wire digital extension line 2B+D. It is intended for connection of OWS, Application link, PSC or equivalent together with a digital telephone, type DBC 199, DBC 202, DBC 203 or equal, if necessary. Picture bellow shows typical diagram having TAU D used for OWS.

Signal channel access is made possible by adaptation of the V.24/V.28 terminal interface standardized by CCITT which is connected to a port on the TAU D to the exchange signal channel data format. The format allows transmission of asynchronous data. The RS-232-C is equivalent to CCITT V.24/V.28 plus ISO 2110.

DEX28 TAU D Option IPTC DEX28 VoIP gateways support TAU D physical device on Extension Side, as shown bellow:

Further, DEX28 can emulate TAU D and eliminate need for physical TAU D device. TAU D emulation can be either on USB port (if DEX28 has such) or TCP port, as shown on the following two diagrams.

Installing USB VCP Drivers To install VCP drivers under Windows XP, follow the instructions below: 1. If a device of the same type has been installed on your machine before and the drivers that are about to be installed are different from those installed already, the original drivers need to be uninstalled. Please refer to the “Uninstalling USB VCP Drivers” section of this document for further details of this procedure. 2. Download the latest available VCP drivers from the FTDI website and unzip them to a location on your PC. FTDI website VCP device driver URL is http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm 3. If you are running Windows XP or Windows XP SP 1, temporarily disconnect your PC from the Internet. This can be done by either removing the network cable from your PC or by disabling your network card by going to the “Control Panel > Network and Dial-Up Connections”, right-clicking on the appropriate connection and selecting “Disable” from the menu. The connection can be re-enabled after the installation is complete. This is not necessary under Windows XP SP 2 if configured to ask before connecting to Windows Update. Windows XP SP 2 can have the settings for Windows Update changed through “Control Panel > System” then select the “Hardware” tab and click “Windows Update”. 4. Connect the device to a spare USB port on your PC.

This will launch the Windows Found New Hardware Wizard. If there is no available Internet connection or Windows XP SP 2 is configured to ask before connecting to Windows Update, the screen below is shown. Select “No, not this time” from the options available and then click “Next” to proceed with the installation. If there is an available Internet connection, Windows XP will silently connect to the Windows Update website and install any suitable driver it finds for the device in preference to the driver manually selected.

TCP TAU D Option Installing VSP TCP Drivers There are two principal ways how to access DEX28 TAU D option over TCP.

1. Using Windows VSP TCP driver, which provides virtual serial port bound to remote TCP port. 2. Using PBX services option to directly connection to TCP port.

The second option requires changes to PBX services and is under joint consideration by Ericsson and IPTC. The procedure bellows concentrates on the first option and describes installation of the VSP TCP driver, in particular HW VSP driver. Note that other COM to TCP virtual serial ports driver can be used. HW VSP driver is based on Eltima VSP XP 5.1. HW VSP’s URL

http://www.hw-group.com/products/hw_vsp/index_en.html Eltima’s URL

http://www.eltima.com/products/vspdxp/ 1. If HW VSP has been installed on your machine before and the drivers that are about to be installed are different from those installed already, the original drivers need to be uninstalled. 2. Download and unzip installation file. HW VSP device driver can be downloaded from:

http://www.hw-group.com/download/sw/HW_VirtualSerialPort.zip 3. Run the installation program. The Setup Wizard will be displayed.
