The goal of the new development will be to enhance the

character of the district by recreating the former jazz

community that once established the area as a place for social

gatherings and a vibrant nightlife.

THESISKariakoo (city center) Redevelopment, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania:

The project will result in open space that is usable and visible

to the public which in turn creates visual relief for nearby

pedestrians. The resulting market area, combined with the

open area from the closed street creates an environment that

allows expansive walkways with extensive landscaping.
