INTRODUCTION

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a thousand year old healing technique.

Healing is done by laying hands on the patient. It is thought to have

originated as a Tibetan Buddhist practice that was rediscovered in the late

1800‟s by Dr. Mikao Usui. It is a very simple yet powerful technique that

can be easily learned by anyone.

The word Reiki comes forms two Japanese word – Rei and Ki- Rei is the

upper Japanese kanji character on the cover of the book, ki in the lower

character:-

Rei- Spiritual wisdom

Mrs. Takata said the world Rei means universal and this in the definition

most have accepted. However, Mrs. Takata also indicated that this

interpretation is a very general one. The kanji ideograms have seven levels

of meaning. They vary from the, mundane to the highly esoteric. So while it

is true that Rei can be interpreted as universal, meaning that it is present

everywhere, this level of interpretation doesn‟t add to our understanding of

Reiki.

Research into the esoteric meaning of their Japanese kanji character for

Reiki has given a much deeper understanding of this ideogram. The word

Rei as it is used in Reiki is more accurately interpreted to mean supernatural

knowledge or spiritual consciousness. This is the wisdom that comes from

God or the Higher Self. This is the God-Consciousness which all knows it

understands each person completely. It knows the cause of all problems and

difficulties and knows how to heal them.

ki- The life Force

ki means the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskrit and Manna in

Hawaiian. It has also been Called, odicorce, organ, and bioplasma. It has

been given many other names by various cultures that have been aware of it.

Ki is the life force. It is also called the vital life force or the universal life

force. This is the nonphysical energy that animates all living things, As long

as something is alive, it has life force circulating through it and surrounding

it, when it dies, the life force departs. If your life force is low. Or if there is

a restriction in is its flow, you will be more vulnerable to illness. When it is

high and flowing freely, you are less likely to get sick. Life force plays an

important role in everything we do. It animates the body and also is the

primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.

The Chinese place great importance on the life force or what they call Chi.

They have studied it for thousands of years and have discovered there are

many different kinds of Chi. The “Yellow Emperors Classic of internal

Medicine” which is over 4,000 years old, lists thirty-two different kinds of

Chi. Once you have received a Reiki attunement, you will have Reiki for the

remainder of your life. It does not wear off and vans never lose it.

Experimentation has found that additional attunements of the same level add

to the value of that level. These benefits include refinement of the Reiki

energy one is channeling, increased psychic sensitivity, and a raised level of

consciousness

The Reiki attunement can start a cleansing process that affects the physical

body as well as the mind and emotions. Toxins that have been stored in the

body may be released along with feelings and thought patterns that are no

longer useful. Therefore, a process of purification prior to the attunement is

recommended to improve the benefit one receives.

The Attunement

Reiki is not taught in the way other healing techniques are taught, it is

transferred to the student by the Reiki Master during an attunement process.

This process opens the crown, heart, and palm chakras and creatures a

special link between the student and the Reiki source.

The Reiki attunement is a powerful spiritual experience. The attunement

energies are channeled into the student through the Reiki Master. The

process is guided by the Rey or God-consciousness and makes adjustments

in the process depending on the needs of each student. The attunement is

also attended by the Reiki guides and other spiritual beings who help

implement the process. Many report having mystical experiences involving

personal message, healing, visions and past life experience.

The attunement can also increase psychic sensitivity. Some student report

experiences involving: opening of the third eye, increased intuitive

awareness, and other psychic abilities after receiving a Reiki attunement the

process of activating a channel which allows Reiki to flow is called

attunement. Once this channel is created it remains open permanently.

Giving Reiki

After the attunement, all that is necessary for the practitioner to use Reiki is

to place their hands on the person to be healed with the intention of healing

.The Reiki energies will begin flowing automatically .Reiki has own

intelligence and knows exactly where to go and what to do. It is not

necessary for the practitioner to direct the Reiki .infect, Reiki has a mind of

its own, and cannot be directed by the practitioner; it will communicate with

the client‟s higher self and use this information to decide where to go and

what to do. The best results are achieved by simply remaining calm and real

Harm Can Never Cause

Reiki is guided by the God-consciousness, it can never do harm. It always

knows what a person needs and will adjust itself to create the effect that is

appropriate for them. One never worries about whether to give Reiki or not.

In addition, because the practitioner does not direct the healing and does not

decide what to work on, or what to heal, the practitioner in not in danger of

taking on the karma of the client .because the practitioner in not doing the

healing, it is also much easier for the ego to stay out the way and allow the

presence of God to clearly shine through.

How does Reiki Heal?

We are alive because life force is flowing us. Life force flows within the

physical body through pathways called chakras, meridians‟ and nadis. It

also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. Life force

nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital

functions. When this flow of life force is disrupted, it causes diminished

function in one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body. The

life force is responsive to thoughts and feelings. It becomes disrupted when

we accept, either consciously or unconsciously, negative thoughts or

feelings about ourselves. These negative thoughts and feelings attach

themselves to the energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of life

force. This diminishes the vital function of the organs and cells of the

physical body.

Reiki heals by flowing through the affected parts of the energy field and

charging them with positive energy. It raises the vibratory level of the

energy field in and around the physical body where the negative thoughts

and feelings are attached. This causes the negative energy to break apart and

fall away. In so doing Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy

pathways, thus allowing the life force to flow in a healthy and natural way

What Can Be Treated?

Reiki is both powerful and gentle. In its long history of use it has aided in

healing virtually every known illness and injury including serious problems

like: multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and cancer as well as skin problems,

cuts, burnishes, broken bones, head ache, colds, flu, sore throat, sunburn,

fatigue, insomnia, impotence, poor memory, lack of confidence, etc. It is

always beneficial and works to improve the effectiveness of all other types

of therapy. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance and has

many benefits for both client and practitioner, including altered dates of

consciousness and spiritual experiences.

If a client has a health condition, and wants to treat with Reiki, it is

recommended that they do so under the supervision of an enlightened

medical doctor or other health care professional. Reiki will improve the

results of all medical treatment, acting to reduce negative side effects,

shorten healing time, reduce or eliminate pain, reduce stress, and help create

opportunities.

Is Reiki a Religion?

While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and

there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact,

Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in

it or not. Because Reiki comes from God, many people find that using Reiki

puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than

having only an intellectual concept of it.

Energy Never Depleted

Because it is a channeled healing, the Reiki practitioner‟s energies are never

depleted; in fact, the Reiki consciousness considers both practitioner and

client to be in need of healing, so both get treated. Because of this, giving a

treatment always increases ones energy and leaves one surrounded with

loving feelings of well-being.

Ki is used by martial artists in their physical training and mental

development it is used in meditative breathing exercises called Pranayama

and by the shamans of all cultures for divination, psychic awareness,

manifestations and healing .ki is the nonphysical energy used by all healers.

Ki is present all round us and can be accumulated and guided by the mind.

Spiritually Guided Life Force Energy

It is the God-consciousness called Rey that guides the life force called ki in

the practice we call Reiki .therefore, Reiki can be defined as spiritually

guided life force energy .this is a meaningful interpretation of the word

Reiki, it more closely describes the experience most people have of it, Reiki

guiding itself with its own wisdom, and being unresponsive to the direction

of the practitioner.

Do All Healers Use Reiki

All healers use life force or ki, but not all use Reiki. Reiki is a special kind

of life force that can only be channeled by someone that has been attuned

to it. It is possible that some people are born with Reiki or have gotten it

some other way. Most healers who have not received the Reiki attunement

from a Reiki Master are not using Reiki but another kind of life force.

People who already do healing work consistently report an increase of life

force. People who already do healing work consistently report an increase of

at least fifty percent in the strength of their healing energies after taking the

Reiki training.

Anyone Can Learn Reiki

The ability to learn Reiki is not dependent on intellectual capacity, nor does

one have to be able to meditate .it does not take years of practice. It is

simply passed on the from the teacher to the student. As soon as this

happens, one has and can do Reiki. Because of this, it is easily learned by

anyone.

Reiki is a pure form of healing not dependent on individual talent or

acquired ability. Because of this, the personality of the healer is less likely

to cloud the significance of the experience. It is so MOTHER LIKE that it

gives a feeling of protection, love, well being and is connected directly to

God‟s healing

Self-Treatment

In addition to using Reiki on others, you can also treat yourself. This is one

of the wonderful advantages of Reiki. It works just as well on you as it does

on others. Complete instruction is given in the Reiki training for self

treatment. The section on hand position lists the steps necessary to give

yourself a complete standard treatment.

Bipolar Nature of Reiki

Clairvoyant observation has indicated the Reiki is bipolar in nature. It is

made up of both male and female healing energies. The male part comes

from above. It is associated with the crown and higher chakras and is called

Shiva in the Tantra system. The female part comes from below, is

associated with the root chakra and is called Shakti in the Tantra system.

These two energies communicate with each other and decide how much of

each polarity is needed so that when the energies leave the hands, they have

the proper combination of male and female healing energies for the person

being treated. It is interesting to note that when more than one person is

working on a client, the Reiki communicates with all the practitioners

involved giving some more of the male energy to channel and others more

of the female energies so that the proper mix is maintained for the client

A brief history of reiki

Reiki was rediscovered in the 1800‟s by a Christian Monk named Mikao

Usui. The story of Mikao Usui‟s search for the secret knowledge has been

spoken of many times by grand master Hawayo Takata.Hawayo Takata tells

the story starting back when Usui was a Christian principal teaching in

Kyoto. Japan. One day several of his students asked had he been able to or

had heard of anyone who was able to demonstrate the healing methods used

by Jesus. Usui was unable to answer. He then decided to take leave from

teaching and to travel and learn Christianity in a Christian Country. His

search led him to America and to the University of Chicago where he earned

a doctorate in theology. However, he did not find any answer in Christian

writings regarding hands-on-healing. Usui was able to read English,

Chinese, Japanese, and Sanskrit {the oldest language known to man}.

He later returned to Japan where he was directed to search through old

Buddhist Sanskrit Sutras. These Sanskrit Sutras seem to contain the answers

to his search. It was as that time that he decided to embark on a ritual so as

to have the answer he searched for to be revealed to him. Usui chose to

travel to the holy mountain of Koriyama. It was here he took upon himself

to meditate and fast for 21 days.

As he climbed the mountain he took with him the Sutras and 21 stones. As

the day ended the world discard one of the stones and read the Sutras, as

well as ding and meditate. Nothing out f\of the ordinary would occur, until

the last day, when in the morning of the 21st day he saw a shining light

moving towards him at a great speed. It hit in the centre of his forehead.

Form this great white light appeared and he saw symbols floating in front of

him. This was the birth of the Usui System of Reiki as shown to him from

the Sutras. When he returned to a normal start of consciousness, he felt a

high State of strength and energy. He began his descent from the high

mountain. As he journeyed down he stubbed his toe on a stone. He

instinctively grabbed his toe with both hands and felt immense heat. Within

minutes the bleeding stopped and the pain disappeared. This was the first

miracle.

Since he was hungry from his fast of 21 days, he stopped at an inn along the

way down and ordered a large meal. The innkeeper warned him not to break

his fast with such a large portion of food, but Usui was able to eat it all

without any harmful side effects. This was the second miracle.

The Granddaughter of the innkeeper had a bad toothache, and been

complaining of the pain, Usui offered to try placing hid hand to see if it

would help. She immediately felt better and ran to her grandfather to tell

him that their guest was no ordinary monk. This was the third miracle.

Usui returned to his monastery and decided to go the Kyoto slums offering

Reiki to beggars so that they could be healed of their ailments and lead a

better life. He spent seven years in the slum treating the sick. One day he

notice the same old faces kept returning. When he asked why they had not

started a new life, he was told that working was deeply shaken and wept. He

then realized that he had assisted in healing their bodies but not their minds.

Usui left slums and returned to his town in the Kyoto, where he lit a large

torch and stood in the streets during daylight .when asked why he stood in

the street with the torch, he replied he was looking for people in search of

true light for relief from illness and oppression. Usui passed the flame of

Reiki onto Dr. Chijiro Hayashi who started a clinic which did only Reiki.

It was here that Takata was advised by her surgeon to go and receive the

Reiki for ailments she had been suffering with. It was there that she was to

be the first woman to be allowed to study Reiki. She returned home cured of

her ailments. It was on the big island of Hawaii that Takata was made a

Reiki Master and later declared the grand master by Dr. Hayashi.

She lived and healed for many years before she began to create other

teachers. Takata initiated 21 Reiki Master to carry on the great work of

Reiki. From those 21 original masters rose many other teacher of Reiki.

History of Usui Shiki Ryoho

(The Usui System of Natural Healing)

Reiki is a generic word in Japan, and is used to describe any type of healing

work based on life force energy. It is not exclusive to the system of healing

based on Dr. Usui‟s method. The system of healing that evolved from Dr.

Usui‟s method is called the Usui System of Natural Healing or Usui Shiki

Ryoho. It is a type of Reiki Since neither Dr. Usui nor Dr. Hayashi left

written instruction about Reiki, the only source of information on the Usui

System of Reiki comes from verbal instruction Mrs. Takata passed on to her

students.

The Usui System of Natural healing has evolved over time. In its current

state, it is much more organized and structured than the simple, flexible,

intuitive method practiced by Dr. Usui. The following is a description of the

Usui System of Reiki.

During this mystical experience on Mt. Koriyama, Dr. Usui received the

ability to do Reiki ideals and the ideal that one needs to receive

compensation for a treatment. Dr. Hayashi added the standard hand

positions, the three degrees and their attunement processes. Mrs. Takata

added the fee structure. The required waiting periods between classes were

added by members of the Reiki Alliance after Mrs.Takata passed away.

Phyllis furumoto, the current Grand Master has stated that the Usui system

may continue to evolve.

After Mrs. Takata‟s tradition, a few teachers began making change in the

way they taught Reiki. Most of the changes were beneficial, and included

the addition of knowledge and healing skills the teachers had learned from

other systems or had acquired from inner guidance. However, some changes

were restrictive, making it more difficult for students to progress. Some took

the Third Degree and divided it into several small parts, calling each new

part a new Degree and charging additional money.Often,the face that they

had modified the Usui System was not mentioned and when their students

become teachers, they began teaching what they thought was pure Usui

Reiki when in fact in was not. In this way, many varieties of Reiki have

developed with some thinking they have the only authentic version of Reiki

when actually what they are teaching is a modified from.

Chakras or Energy Centres

Chakras or whirling energy centers are very important parts of the

bioplasmic body. Just as the visible physical body has vital and minor

organs, the balsamic body has major, minor and mini chakras. Major

chakras are whirling energy centers which are about three or four inches in

diameter. They control and energize the major and vital organs of the visible

physical body. Major chakras are just like power stations that supply vital

energy to major and vital organs. When the power stations malfunction, the

vital organs become sick or diseased because they do not have enough vital

energy too properly. They have several important functions as follows:

1- They digest, and distribute prana to the different part of the body.

2- The chakras control, energize and are responsible for the proper

functioning of the whole physical body and its different parts and

organs. The endocrine glands are controlled and energized by some of

the major chakras. A lot of ailments are caused partially by the

malfunctioning of the chakras.

3- Some chakras sites or centers of the psychic faculties. Activation of

certain chakras (energy centers) may result in the development of

certain psychic faculties. For example, among the easiest and safest

chakras to activate are the hand chakras. These are located at the

center of the palms. By activating the hand chakras, one develops the

ability to feel subtle energies.

Endocrine System

There are 7 major charkas which are located along the spine. Closely linked

to these charkas in the endocrine system ( ductless glands which

generate hormones) Reiki balances these glands, creating harmony within.

Healing

The words heal and whole are of similar origins and hence to be healed

means to become whole/complete/total.

Healing means experiencing a sense of well-being, and includes both the

physical and mental aspects.

Man's most natural state is that of health. Ironically very few of us are

blessed with a life of physical well being. In fact, the more some people

suffer the more they seem to delight in their imbalance.

Occasionally a therapist may encounter a recipient going through a healing

crisis or a release of the toxins which have caused the disease. This is an

unpleasant though favorable symptom. If this happens, explain this process

to your recipient and increase the number of treatments until the healing is

complete. Also ensure that the recipient increases liquid intake and rest

adequately.

Acute Diseases

By definition these diseases are short term in nature. Healing is quicker and

is generally complete in 5-7 sessions.

Chronic Diseases

There diseases are of a continuous or nature and may take longer to heal,

because they have built up over long period of time. Recipient may

experience a healing crisis during the treatment, later or not at all. Continue

Reiki until symptoms disappear/dissolve. The treatment should be given for

21 days without a break.

Equilibrium Of Energy

There is energy in everything in this world and one of the characteristics

of energy is that it is always in a state of equilibrium. When we have a

physical or a mental upset our energy does not remain a state of equilibrium.

Reiki creates equilibrium and maintains a balance in us.

Being a holistic healing system Reiki does not require a diagnosis prior to

treatment and the treatment is the same irrespective of the diseases.

Full Treatment

To complete a full treatment Reiki is made available by placing your palms

on at least 27 locations on you recipient's body. For a minimum of three

minutes at each location.

Reiki can be used along with any other form of therapy. Medication,

religion belief system and faith. In fact use of Reiki will enhance their

Energy Exchange

After completing a Reiki treatment an energy exchange should take place

receive treatments.

Second Degree Reiki

The second degree class provides the participants with the opportunity to

attune the higher levels of Reiki energy, the initiations of second‟s degree

also attune a person to the power keys or symbols, which are used at this

First degree attunements focus on elevating the energy of the physical

physical emotional distress. Reiki is not Nirvana or Heaven or omnipresent

bliss-though compared to what some people have chosen to suffer and how

segments of the medical community treat (or can‟t treat) certain ailments, it

may seem that way to the healed client.

Disease and subsequent ailments will remain an aspect of mass

consciousness for some time to come in this world‟s reality. So when you

find yourself in a lowered energy state, remember Reiki works on you too.

And don‟t hesitate to request the aid of other Reiki therapists to magnify the

universal life energy flaw in you.

physical and emotional health, though:

The 21 Day Cleanse Process

After the attunement in each of the three degrees, the student will undergo a

21 day cleanse process. Due to the raised vibratory rate of the physical and

enteric bodies, old dense negative energy is forced „to the surface”, and is

released. As we know from the study of physics, solid matter does not

really exist. Everything is composed of energy, thus everything has a

vibration. Even rocks and mineral are made of energy; they simply have a

lower rate of vibration. In a similar fashion, negative blocks and emotional

patterns which are stored in our physical eaves or pockets of energy that we

create when we are thinking loving and positive thoughts. Thus as we

increase our vibratory rate, through steady persistence at whichever spiritual

discipline we choose to study. We begin to notice how much easier it is to

maintain a positive flow, due to the snowball effect.

When we receive a series of Reiki attunements, the sudden amplification of

vibratory rate acts as a trigger to set off an accelerated loosening of

negative dense energy within our systems, which cannot resonate with the

finer vibrations created by the attunements. Since your vibration is adjusted

so quickly a reaction takes place which allows old stored up emotions and

memories to be released, as is appropriate for further growth. Although the

change is sudden, it takes time for the adjustments to become effective. It

takes approximately three days for the energy to move through each of the

seven main chakras. Although the opening of the Reiki channel occurs

between the heart center and the crown charka, the centers in the lower part

of the body are equally important and go through as corresponding

adjustments in vibratory rate.

Some of the typical outward signs you may notice in your life as a result of
