General DescriptionDeviceNet™ is an open communicationnetwork designed to connect factoryfloor devices such as photoelectricsensors, inductive proximity sensors, motorstarters, drives, valve manifolds, and simple operator interfaces togetherwithout interfacing through an I/Osystem. It increases the amount andrate of information flowing from plantfloor devices to control systems, andhas the potential to substantially reducewiring costs. Up to 64 intelligent nodescan be connected to one DeviceNetnetwork. The ability to remove andreplace devices from the network whileunder power without a programmingtool is a distinct advantage of theDeviceNet network. The DeviceNet network consists of acabling system that provides bothpower and communication to nodes.Rockwell Automation/Allen-Bradleyoffers a number of media products fordevice connection and communicationneeds.
KwikLink Flat Media SystemThe KwikLink flat media systemprovides a simple, modular cablingmethod with its flat 4-wire cable andInsulation Displacement Connectors(IDCs). Designed to promote up to 50%savings in installation costs by offeringa drastic reduction in labor andmaterials, the KwikLink system allows
nodes to be added to the networkquickly and easily—without severing thetrunkline. Cutting or stripping of thetrunkline is eliminated, as is the needfor predetermined cable lengths.KwikLink offers maximum simplicitywhile still supporting 64 nodes. Inaddition to micro, mini pigtail, cablepigtail, open, and terminator style IDCs,specific KwikLink IDC connections alsoinclude splice kits for joining twoseparate flat media trunk sections.ArmorBlock MaXum I/O is alsospecifically designed to provide a directinterface to the KwikLink flat mediasystem. A full complement ofaccessories is also available. Forcomplete information on systeminstallation and associated details, seeAllen-Bradley publication DN–6.7.2.
Round Media—Thick Trunk SystemAllen-Bradley round media thick trunksystems are based on the use of “thickcable” for DeviceNet. Allen-Bradleythick trunk cable allows maximum trunkline distance and is the originalDeviceNet system configuration. Thicktrunk cable is available in bulk spools oras mini male to mini female cordsets orpatchcords in varying lengths. A widevariety of rugged, durable Allen-BradleyDeviceNet components are available foruse in thick trunk systems. These
components include drop cables,T-Ports, DeviceBox, DevicePort,PowerTap and a multitude of othercomponents and accessories. Stainlesssteel versions of thick cable systemcomponents are also available. Forcomplete information on systeminstallation and associated details, seeAllen-Bradley publication DN–6.7.2.
Round Media—Thin Trunk SystemAllen-Bradley round media thin trunksystems are based on the use of “thincable” for DeviceNet. The use of thincable reduces maximum trunk linedistances but allows for a morecompact and cost effective installationfor some applications. Allen-Bradleythin cable outer jacket material is TPEfor additional chemical resistance. Thintrunk cable is available in a wide varietyof configurations including raw spoolsand both micro and mini cordsets andpatchcords. Similar to Allen-Bradleythick trunk systems, compatiblecomponents include T-Ports,DeviceBox, DevicePort, PowerTap, anda multitude of other components andaccessories. Stainless steel versions ofthin cable system components are alsoavailable. For complete information onsystem installation and associateddetails, see Allen-Bradley publicationDN–6.7.2.

Features• Physical key to ensure proper
connection alignment• Sized to fit inside 1 conduit• TPE or PVC jacket material• UL recognized and CSA certified
Specifications
DescriptionClass 1 (CL1) Cable: Per NECspecifications for a Class 1 circuit (seeNEC Article 725), the power sourcemust have a rated output of less than30V and 1000VA. So, based on the sizeof the flat cable conductors, themaximum current through the networkmust be no more than 8A. Forapplications requiring 8A in the field, aClass 1 rated flat cable is available.Allen-Bradley Class 1 KwikLink cable isUL listed for 600V and 8A at 24V DC.For optimal chemical resilience andsuperior protection in harshenvironments, KwikLink Class 1 cablealso features a TPE jacket. Maximumtoughness with excellent flexibility.
Class 2 (CL2) Cable: For lessdemanding applications at lowercurrents, Allen-Bradley offers aPVC-jacketed Class 2 cable. Moreflexible than the CL 1 cable, this designadheres to NEC Article 725, whichstates that for a Class 2 circuit, thepower source must have a rated outputof less than 30V and 100VA. In thecase of DeviceNet, running at 24V, themaximum allowable current is then100VA/24V or 4A. Therefore, KwikLinkCL 2 cable is rated to 4A at 24V DC.Auxiliary Power Cable (CL1): In somecases, it may be desirable to run anauxiliary bus to power outputs, i.e.valves, actuators, indicators. To supportsuch an application, Allen-Bradleyprovides a black PVC power cable foruse with KwikLink connectors. KwikLinkpower cable is a Class 1 cable capableof supplying 24V of output power withcurrents up to 8A.

DescriptionRockwell Automation/Allen-BradleyDeviceNet sensors interface directly tothis industry standard plant floornetwork without the need for additionalI/O blocks or adaptors. In addition to thestandard On/Off indication, DeviceNetcompatible sensors provide advancedlogic and diagnostic functions notavailable in competitive DeviceNetmodels. Logic functions includecounters, timers and motion detectionwhile the diagnostics warn of unstableapplication characteristics. Forexample, the 871TM DeviceNetproximity sensor will produce adiagnostic output when the target is tooclose to the sensor face or at theoutside edge of the sensing range.Further, Allen-Bradley DeviceNetsensors may be configured for eitherstrobing or change-of-state (COS)operating modes, normally open ornormally closed outputs (light operate ordark operate for photoelectric sensors)and discrete or analog output. Thisflexibility allows a single sensor to beconfigured for a variety of applications.
DeviceNet sensors may be assignedany node address between 0 and 63.While a sensor’s baud rate isdetermined automatically as it is addedto the network (autobaud), it may alsobe manually programmed to 125, 250,or 500kb/s. Configuration of all networkand sensor parameters can be doneover the network with Rockwell
Software’s RSNetWorx package and forfield configuration or diagnostics, theDeviceView Hand-Held Configurator(2707–DNC) is available.

DescriptionBulletin 802DN DeviceNet limit switcheshave been designed with the samerugged features of our 802T NEMA limitswitches with the features and benefitsof DeviceNet built in. These limitswitches utilize DeviceNet technologyto address the primary customer needs. The three most common needs areincreased information flow, aninexpensive way to connect limitswitches to a DeviceNet network, andfinally, reduction of down time by usingthe advanced diagnostic capabilitiesonly available though DeviceNet.802DN limit switches are configuredusing RSNetWorx for DeviceNet. Online configuration help is available usingthe parameter help feature.
Features• Direct connection to DeviceNet
network• Autobaud• Dual outputs with distinct
programmable angles to operate• Teach and learn angle• Each output programmable to N.O.
or N.C.• Programmable travel to reset
(hysteresis)• Configurable counters with resets on
each output
Specifications
Features (continued)• Multiple timing functions
Programmable in 1ms increments On delay timer Off delay timer One shot timer
• User-selectable discrete or analogoutput• Multiple maintenance warnings
Overtravel alarm Motion detection Slow lever return alarm Jam detect
User defined counter preset used forTracking total operations andmaintenance alarming
Supports change of state (COS) orstrobing protocol
High Degree of VersatilityBulletin 802DN limit switches can bemounted in any position, with operatingheads that can be rotated and fastenedin any one of four positions 90 apart. Most operating levers areinterchangeable and can be rotated andclamped in any position through 360.
NEMA Type 13 Construction802DN limit switches feature NEMAType 13 construction with syntheticrubber seals to protect the operatingparts against entry of oil, dust, abrasives, water and coolant, within thelimits of NEMA-specified tests.
Easy Mounting and WiringEach switch base has four mountingholes: two “through” holes for frontmounting and two tapped holes in theback for rear mounting. Three differentwiring styles are available for ease ofinstallation. Each of the models isavailable for order with one of thefollowing: a five-pin micro quick-disconnect, a five-pin mini quick-disconnect, or a prewired two metercable.
Lever Type SwitchesThese switches are operated by meansof a lever which is clamped to a knurledshaft extending from the operatinghead.Lever type switches can be equippedwith a variety of operating levers: rollerlever, adjustable roller lever, micrometeradjustment roller lever, rod lever,one-way rod or roller lever and forklever. These can be usedinterchangeably on all lever typeswitches. The micrometer adjustment roller lever, catalog number 802T–W6, is designedespecially for installations where theexact position of the roller is critical. This lever has a pivoted roller whichcan be turned laterally. After clampingthe lever to the switch shaft, the positionof the roller can be precisely adjustedthrough an arc of 7.5 on either side ofthe center or straight-line position.
Wide Belt RollerThe 802DN–WBR–XX limit switchescome packaged with a special leverarm. This limit switch has beenspecifically designed for preciseposition detection of conveyor belts. Byusing the advanced features ofDeviceNet, this limit switch is ideal forthis application.
