Director’s MessageIRMA has long been hailed as a pioneering institute in rural management. Its legacy of creating rural managers with ethos and values makes it a truly unique institution, where development integrates with management. We take pride in nurturing rural managers known for their passion, courage, and commitment towards the society.
IRMA cherishes its rich alumni base working in different sectors across various geographical locations. Our alumni, known to occupy top leadership positions, have proved their mettle beyond doubt in their fields of work.
We at IRMA believe in holistic development. Our curriculum, hence, is an amalgam of classroom studies with three two-month-long internship segments. These distinct internships allow participants to apply their classroom studies in real world situations while learning about and observing both the rural and industrial sectors closely. We equip our participants with contemporary management skills and competencies to effect transformation in the rural domain.
It gives me immense pleasure to invite you to participate in our endeavour towards sustainable and equitable development of the society. It would be a privilege to have our 38th batch of participants engage with your organization during their Development Internship Segment, for mutual benefit.
Prof. Hitesh BhattDirector, IRMA

About IRMA
The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) is a pioneering academic institution in rural management, education, and research. IRMA was established in 1979 at Anand, Gujarat by the father of White Revolution, Dr. Verghese Kurien. He started this institute with the belief that the key to effective rural development lies in professional management. IRMA’s unique strength of integrating development and management together sets it apart from most of the other management schools. Today IRMA is at the forefront of professionalising the development of India’s rural sector and is known for its excellence in teaching and research. The Programmes offered in IRMA are Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM) and Doctoral Level Fellow Programme in Rural Management (FPRM).
The Mission
The mission of IRMA is to promote sustainable, ecologically-friendly and equitable socio-economic development of rural people through professional management.
About PGDRMIRMA’s flagship programme, Postgraduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM), equips young men and women with both development perspectives and business acumen. The curriculum of IRMA’s program in rural management includes five classroom terms with courses in different domains like marketing, finance, operations, rural development etc. The interactive classroom sessions act as breeding grounds for ideas and initiatives that add to the participants’ overall development as management professionals.
IRMA believes more in action and therefore the program is designed with an emphasis on experiential learning through three internship segments, which provide six months of on-field learning. The Village Fieldwork Segment (VFS), Development Internship Segment (DIS) and Management Traineeship Segment (MTS) facilitate the participants to learn and work in both complex rural scenarios as well as corporate organizations, each posing a different set of challenges.

The PRM participants aside from the routine classroom sessions also engage in various student-run club activities in the domain of Marketing, Finance, Developmental and Public Policy and Social Entrepreneurship etc. These clubs also enable the participants to enhance their leadership skills and act as a platform for participants to interact with alumni and professionals in their field of interest.
The Development Internship Segment (DIS) is a seven-week internship program at the beginning of the second year of the PGDRM program. The purpose of DIS is to strengthen IRMA participants’ exposure to grassroots rural development interventions and to get a first-hand experience of challenges faced by primary producers/socially oriented organizations. The DIS offers opportunities to learn through practical engagement and develop interactive skills with the community and grassroots organizations. DIS enables participants to blend their understanding of theories of rural development interventions, managerial skills and tools and techniques to come up with viable solutions in the interests of all stakeholders.
The projects could include community mobilization, capacity building of primary producers, health and education interventions, poverty alleviation, environmental safety, employment generation or other initiatives with a clear objective of achieving social good.
This year, 175 participants would undertake the DIS, beginning on May 21, 2018 and ending on July 06, 2018.
