MA809 Development in Preaching

Cource DescriptionThis course is designed to assist those with a preaching ministry to face the challenges presented by the varieties of text (the biblical genre) and context (their contemporary audience) which they encounter.

It will expose students to a range of issues concerning the history and theology of preaching, while also developing their awareness of the structural possibilities in preaching and their understanding of the contemporary challenges to the practice of preaching. The aim of the course is to enable students to prepare and preach sermons that are faithful to the Scripture, sensitive to the culture, and relevant to the audience.

LecturerDr Paul Windsor has taught preaching for over twenty years, first as a lecturer, and then as principal of Carey Baptist College. Paul has also had many years of experience behind the pulpit as both a local pastor and internationally as a guest speaker and trainer in his current role as Associate Director of Langham Preaching. He is widely regarded as the leading teacher of preaching in New Zealand and the Pacific. Paul’s DMin thesis focused on the role of intrigue in communicating about Jesus with skeptics; specifically through billboards.
