For a company that has many important projects, it’s tempting to tap the same experienced leader.- The experienced leader has a good record
of success- The company does not want to put any of
the projects at risk of failure
Reconsidering the Selection Process
• But when the same team leader is selected to lead over and over again, this could have a negative impact on:
- The team leader- The team and its performance- Retention of emerging talent (e.g. “talent
to watch”)

• A high tech company with many important projects taps an experienced leader to run a new product design project.
• She has successfully led four major projects in the past three years—more than any other team leader.
