Not all golf camps are the same and selecting the right one can provide lasting benefits. Developed and refined over the years by a staff of PGA pros and our own golf professionals, 4 Star Camps has created a comprehensive summer golf program second to none. We combine the best of supervision and quality instruction with fun, non-golf activities to provide an unforgettable summer experience.

Highlights of all our golf programs include:• Low student to instructor ratio. • Students receive 3 hours of expert golf

instruction daily, four days during the week. • PGA pros will work with you every day. • Play the course opportunities. Each student

will play (in carefully matched foursomes) up to 18 holes 4 times a week plus 9 holes Sunday evening on the University of Virginia’s beautiful Birdwood Golf Course.

• A golf workbook containing specific instructional tips.

• Tournament play. • A program covering all aspects of the game

suitable for beginner through advanced levels.

Full Day Golf Camp One or multiple weeks. The Full Day Golf Camp is a challenging, yet fun instructional program for girls and boys ages 10 - 17 of all ability levels, which includes small group instruction and “play the course” opportunities. Three hours of group instruction four days a week covers all phases of stroke development – from the long game to the short game – and, of course, putting. Five days a week students play UVA’s beautiful Birdwood course. Four of the five days provide for 18 holes of play, though ability and fitness levels will be factored in. All students are grouped by ability level and will receive a journal documenting improvement, end of camp evaluations, and recommendations for continued improvement.

Playing College GOLF WorkshopFor those interested in playing collegiate golf, information about when to contact schools or coaches, how to obtain college scholarships, and how to get recognition from college coaches and what criteria they use is provided in a workshop-type setting, if there is interest.

Residential Life Students are housed in university dorms in the center of the UVA grounds. Our residential staff act as big brothers and sisters to students, yet also provides supervision and mentoring. Living in a dorm is a great way to meet new friends, have fun, and learn how to live in a group setting. Since most students come to the program, each is assigned to a dorm group to facilitate meeting other campers. Each floor has its own Residential Advisor - experienced in residential life - and a better than four to one ratio of students to staff. In addition, a Camp Director lives at the dorms along with numerous Program Directors. This system was designed to ensure student safety, the absolute best supervision, and a feeling of friendship and interaction among students and staff. Our older and younger students are housed in separate areas and each has specialized rules and supervision to meet the different needs of each group. Roommates are assigned according to age and we make every effort to honor roommate requests. Two students share a dorm room although occasionally a student will be assigned to a single room. The rooms include beds, desks, bureaus and a closet for each student.

The residents’ lounges are a great place to meet, play ping-pong or watch a movie. Right outside the dorms is a courtyard for Frisbee, football and other activities. A large part of the program occurs at and around the dorms where friends, socializing, and memories flourish. The university housekeeping staff cleans the bathrooms and common areas each day - Campers are responsible for keeping their own rooms clean.

Dining Breakfast and lunch are served in one of two attractive, newly renovated cafeterias. Included each day are unlimited helpings of a wide variety of nutritious and delicious food choices. At breakfast you can choose from both hot and cold cereal, fruit & omelettes. Lunches also offer a great variety of hot entrees, a salad bar, deli bar, pizza center, fresh fruit, beverages, and desserts. Some meals are special times, as is tradition at 4 Star. Twice a week dinners are catered in buffet fashion in the courtyard. On Thursdays before the evening activity, students enjoy a special 4 Star tradition of dining out at popular restaurants at The Corner. Pizza is ordered in one night per week, and finally on Friday mornings before checkout, a spread of breakfast pastries and cereals is provided buffet style.

Mail & phones We will have a local address that may be used for mailing all packages and letters to campers. Mail is picked up each morning except Sunday. Campers are encouraged to bring stamps with them to camp rather than trying to purchase them at the post office. We will notify you of the address in the spring.

The camp telephone number will be available in mid-June. Please call our administrative office at 1-800-334-7827 to obtain it. We will have a staff member available to take calls throughout the day; however, if they are unavailable you may leave a message on voice mail and a staff member will return your call as soon as possible. Campers will have access to a phone in the dorms to call home. Please send a calling card with your child if they will want to make long distance calls on these phones. Cell phones are discouraged though not prohibited. Campers with cell phones are only allowed to use them during regularly scheduled phone hours. They must be turned off and stowed away during all other times.

Camp Rules 4 Star has important rules which help all students enjoy and receive maximum benefits from the camp. There is zero tolerance for the use of illicit substances such as tobacco, drugs, or alcohol. Gambling is not permitted. Students may not behave disrespectfully to staff members or to other campers. Students may not behave disruptively and/or in a manner that limits another student’s enjoyment or learning. Curfews are listed in “a typical weekday”. Written permission from the parent or guardian is required for a guest to take a student off grounds. The guest must have a picture identification and adhere to normal curfews. A breach of any of these rules may result in expulsion of a student without refund.

Laundry & Spending Money Laundry facilities are available in the dorms for a standard charge. Spending money for souvenirs, snacks, etc. may be deposited in the form of cash or traveler’s checks for campers with the Camp Bank at check-in. The Camp Bank is open mid-afternoons for campers to withdraw money. We recommend $50 per week.

Medical Requirements 4 Star requires a physical exam prior to arrival at camp. A current school year’s physical within the past 12 months will suffice in lieu of a physician’s signature and should be returned along with 4 Star’s Medical Release.

A Medical Release, which needs to be signed by the healthcare provider and parents, will be mailed to you upon receipt of your deposit/application and is available for printing from our website: www.4starcamps.com.

The completed Medical Release needs to be returned to our office at least one week prior to check-in, otherwise your child will not be able to participate in the program. Injured or ill students will be given prompt medical attention; however, health and accident expenses are not covered in the tuition cost and will be passed along to the student’s parents.

If the student is not covered by insurance a major credit card must be on file.
