§ 19 Search of cultural monuments
„Who on land or in waters is searching for cultural monuments, especially by digging or with the help of technical instruments, needs a permit issued by the state office for the protection of monuments.“

rules for metal detecting
- historical background and typical metal finds
(Bronze Age to modern times)
- lections in the conservation laboratory and at
the ammunition clearance service
- archaeological database of the state and
how to report new finds

- systematic search

Some rules for detector users certified by the ALSH
Where to use the metal detector?
In the plowed soil of fields in the defined search area
Where is it not allowed to search?
on archaeological sites and monuments, in forests, underwater, etc.
What to do with the finds?
Accurate Mapping with GPS.
All archaeological finds are to be reported. As part of the license, all archaeological
finds belong to the State of SH.
Special Finds should be reported immediately for accurate
Mapping with DGPS (or even Excavation) by Archaeologists!

•Education on historical value is crucial for responsible acting
•very good cooperation and engagement within projects
•public interest and understanding in archaeology is raised
•illegal activities can be spotted out much easier
•highly valuable scientific output
• and finally: A lot of extra effort, but also fun!
