DeGarson Oghenekevwe and Fatima Baba: INVENTORS

    D etachable-mouse built-into computer: INVENTION

    Abstract

The detachable-mouse comes in various ergonomic shapes that fit into a groove withcorresponding shapes in the computer. The detachable-mouse as any regular mouse may

connect to the computer by applicable wireless means or with a detachable cord that

    retracts.

This implies that the computer hardware configuration would be such that the detachable-

mouse does not disturb the position and operation of other hardware that make up the

computer. Integrating the detachable-mouse for laptops, notebooks or such similar

computers-types, may best mean that the detachable-mouse fits right after the touchpad.

For laptops, notebooks or such similar computer-types the detachable-mouse buttons serve

their usual function, whether the detachable-mouse is attached or detached from the

computer; while the touchpad serves for cursor navigation and the left-click-buttonselection. When detached, the detachable-mouse serves as a regular mouse for cursor

navigation and selection, while the touchpad still serves for cursor navigation and the left-

    click-button selection.

The detachable-mouse may slide in and out of the groove meant to accommodate it, or it

may be detached and attached by any other preferable method.

Apparently the detachable-mouse is one integrated into the ornamental design of a

computer unlike a regular mouse that is external to computers.

    Claim

    What is claimed is:

    1. As any regular mouse, the detachable-mouse has buttons and other accompanying

effects, it comes in various shapes, preferably ergonomic shapes; as any regular

mouse, the detachable-mouse works and connects to the computer by applicable

wireless means or with a detachable cord that retracts: The computer will have a

groove shaped to correspond to the shape of the detachable-mouse; this groove

accommodates the detachable-mouse; and for laptops, notebooks or such similar

computer-types, the groove is right after the touchpad: There is a simple mechanism

to detach and attach the detachable-mouse to the computer.

    2. The buttons of the detachable-mouse as claimed in claim 1, serve their usual

functions, whether the detachable-mouse is attached or detached from the

computer; the touchpad serves for cursor navigation and left-click-button selection,

that is, for laptops, notebooks and or such similar computer-types: and when

detached, the detachable-mouse as claimed in claim 1, serves as a regular mouse for

cursor navigation and selection; while the touchpad still serves for cursor navigation

and the left-click-button selection, for laptops, notebooks or such similar computers.

    Description

Field of the invention: The present invention relates to preferred cursor navigation for anycomputer-type. The present invention handles its own in this field by means of a detachable-

mouse built in to the computer. It makes acquiring and using an external mouse

unnecessary for computer users, while amounting in little or negligible or no increase in

production cost for any and or every computer brand to which the present invention may be

    licensed to.

Brief description of prior art: Conventionally, there are two different ways to perform cursor

navigation of a computer, which are using a regular mouse, and a touch sensitive interface

attached or built into the computer, e.g. the touchpad, touch screen with or without a stylus

etc. Both methods aforementioned are found to have their respective drawbacks; especially

for laptops, notebooks and such similar computer-types.

Using a touchpad takes more time to cursor navigate the computer, and the computer

cannot be used efficiently; because the user has to hit and or slide his/her finger(s) on the

touchpad for a relatively short distance frequently: Using a touch screen with or without a

stylus is not as consistently reliable as using a mouse; besides there are several operations

easier and best executed using a mouse.

Using a regular mouse external to the computer to cursor navigate the computer is most

    preferred, but this requires acquiring/having and carrying it around along with the computer;

and when forgotten the user would not be able to use it to cursor navigate the computer as

    preferred.

Incidentally, in January 2008, a patent was granted one Lin of Taiwan; his invention- mousedevice of a laptop computer. It was also intended to offer preferred cursor navigation, but

only for laptop computers, as is the scope of the invention. Its drawbacks are its being

cumbersome and kind of tacky in design and application, which implies incurring

undesirable cost by any and every computer brand that decides to license, produce and

    profit from it.

    Summary of the present invention

The detachable-mouse comes in various ergonomic shapes to fit into a groove with

corresponding shape in the computer. The detachable-mouse as any regular mouse works

and may connect to the computer with a detachable cord that retracts or by applicable

wireless means. This implies that hardware configuration would be such that the detachable-mouse does not disturb the position and operation of other hardware that make up the

computer. Integrating the detachable-mouse for laptops, notebooks or such similar

computers-types, may best mean that the detachable-mouse fits right after the touchpad.

Thus the detachable-mouse buttons serve their usual function, whether the detachable-

mouse is attached or detached from the computer; while the touchpad serves for cursor

navigation and the left-click-button selection. When detached, the detachable-mouse with

its buttons and other accompanying effects, serves as a regular mouse for cursor navigation

and selection, while the touchpad still serves for cursor navigation and the left-click-button

selection. Apparently the detachable-mouse is one integrated into the design of a computer

unlike a regular mouse that is external to computers; and it may slide in and out of the

groove meant to accommodate it, or detach and attach as is preferred.

The present invention overcomes aforementioned drawbacks of conventional methods of

cursor navigation of a computer: it affords computer users the most preferred cursornavigation being more portable than an external mouse; it affords the computer brand that

the present invention may be licensed to, little or no extra cost making it, along with some

share of the external mouse market added to its share of the computer market.

    Brief description of drawings:

    The present invention would be better understood with the accompanying drawings wherein;

a laptop is merely used in the drawings for the purpose of illustrating the present invention,
